Description

LAST ONE!! I've run out of this yarn and prefer to experiment with new colours and patterns rather than reproduce old ones. So if you like this scarf, better jump in quick before it's gone for good :)
--------------

Looking for something a little bit different? This warm woolen knit is the perfect gift item for the geek or nerd in your life who loves technology, maths, biology or science.

Do you remember Conway's Game of Life, a 2D animation first devised in the 1970s that mimics living, reproducing and dying in a grid of pixels? If not, Wikipedia to the rescue! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway%27s_Game_of_Life

This scarf is based on the same principle as Game of Life. I made the pattern using a mathematical algorithm that mimics cell reproduction. It begins at one end with three living cells (or knits) and each following row in the scarf shows the new generation of cells based on the previous row. This particular rule, known as Rule 150, is non-repeating.

This blue and purple colour combination is quite stunning in real life and has attracted many compliments - I have one of my own :)

This scarf is 216cm x 15cm in size and made from 100% high-quality Cashmilon Acrylic; a man-made fiber with longer strands than wool, so it's less prone to pilling. I've tested the yarn in multiple washes and can attest to its warmth and durability.

I make scarves in my smoke-free, pet-free home. To knit them I resurrected a broken domestic knitting machine from the 1980's and hacked it to accept mathematical patterns from a modern day computer. Don't assume this scarf is quick work, though. While a knitting machine makes some things easier, I still have to work by hand from start to finish.

To clean use 40'c machine or hand wash warm rinse. Do not rub or hand-wring. Dry flat

Please be aware I make these on demand so there may be a few days delay before I can ship to you. Ships from Melbourne, Australia.

If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase, I offer a 14-day money back guarantee. Return postage is at the buyer's expense.
