Slouchy Summer Santa Hat Pattern. Instant digital download.

The Slouchy Summer Santa Hat came into being due to my love of Christmas and my love for my son. Whenever I put a santa hat on my son he would pull it off before I could even take a photo. They were just too hot for him. After an extensive search I found heaps of beautiful crochet hat patterns but they were all designed with a white Christmas in mind so I decided to create one myself and the Slouchy Summer Santa Hat was born!

The first Christmas with his hat was a total hit (he actually wanted to wear it and he looked super cute) so I decided to expand the sizes - to 9 in fact! So now you can make one of these for anyone from a tiny baby to a full grown adult.

This hat is crocheted in rounds from the top down with a simple ribbed band that is flat on the back and a rounded funnel shape, rather than a straight cone shape, for the Santa hat look with a slouchy mesh design that is comfortable to wear.

Each size is created with the same hook and yarn and therefore maintains the same look and feel - see photo #5 for all the sizes next to each other.
It is an easy pattern that advanced beginners will be able to master and experienced hookers will be able to whip up for all their loved ones with ease.

Level: Easy
The pattern uses basic stitches suitable for advanced beginners.

You'll need:
Approx. 60 - 200 (65 - 220 yards) 8ply (DK) yarn depending on size.
I've used Bendigo Woollen Mills 8ply cotton in Pomegranate and Parchment and Moda Vera Beetle in Red and White.
4mm hook
Pom pom maker

Finished sizes (circumference):
*0-3 months - 34 cms (13 1/2 in)
*3-6 months - 37 cms (14 1/2 in)
*6-12 months - 41 cms (16 in)
1-2 years - 43 cms (17 in)
2-3 years - 47 cms (18 1/2 in)
4-10 years - 49 cms (19 1/4 in)
Teen/Small Adult - 52 cms (20 1/2 in)
Medium Adult - 55 cms (21 3/4 in)
Large Adult - 60 cms (23 1/2 in)
(*the 3 smaller sizes are not as slouchy so they don't fall over babies' faces)

Included in this 39 page PDF pattern:
22 tutorial photos
7 other photos
American English crochet terms used throughout.
Top Down construction.
5 partial graphs for help with stitch pattern increases and brim.
Clear concise written instructions with a layout designed to make it easy to follow and not lose your place.
9 Sizes from infant to large adult, each written separately so there's no confusing multiple stitch counts in brackets.
Condensed pattern printable pages so you can print the pattern on just 3 pages for all 9 sizes reducing paper usage. (*You can even get it onto 1 page if you print 2 pages per sheet and double sided - and it's still perfectly clear!)
Landscape layout that looks good on a laptop, tablet or phone (simply zoom in on half the page on your smart phone to see the pattern clearly in portrait mode).
Links to 3 tutorials to help with the special stitches.

I haven't made this yet, but I looked through the pattern and was pleased with the organization, level of detail, and number of helpful photos. This is the first pattern I've found that makes a market bag that can be folded up/condensed for easy travel - I have a store-bought bag like this that I love, so I'm super excited to make a bunch of similar bags from this pattern!

This is a beautiful pattern that was easy to follow. I’m still learning to read patterns, so I really loved that she included a helpful chart. Also, as soon as I saw the design I thought “these would make gorgeous snowflake earrings if done in thread“ & I was right! Of course, they make beautiful coasters as well. 😉

I struggled with this pattern but I'm still pretty new to the craft. I'll take another go at it in a few months. The pattern included a ton of resources so I'm sure I'll get it the second time around.
