Description

I really love this pretty verse. It speaks to me of the welcome place a friend or lover makes for us, so that we might open our heart. We yearn for someone to want to draw us out.

I read a book once that talked about how shy we humans are, or can be, and of what a kindness it is to encourage people in feeling comfortable expressing themselves. It’s a gift!

My sampler combines old Berlin Wool-Work and filet crochet patterns with my own designs. Underneath the shady trees, the cross stitched grass is overlaid lightly with straight stitches (grass) and little knots (blossoms).
Made in 1994, I have just charted this sampler (2017) to share. I've given both 'Symbol Only' and 'Colour and Symbol' charts to make life easy.

Dimensions 220 x 320 stitches. You will need to use even-weave (rather than Aida) as the wreath 'O' is stiched in petit-point.

The sampler is worked using 2 strands of Appleton's Crewel wool (with a conversion chart for D.M.C.).

The main sampler has 29 colours, the wreath an extra 32. Of course you are able to use your general stash (particularly in the wreath) if you don't want to purchase so many colours. I admit I'm always ready for an excuse to add to my crewel wool collection! But please feel free to experiment with your own colour and thread choices if you prefer.

Includes detailed illustrations for adding the grass and knots underneath the trees.
