<About Olympus Trip35 Film Camera>
The Olympus Trip 35 is a compact 35mm film camera released in 1968 by Japanese camera manufacturer Olympus. The developers designed this camera with the concept of "a camera that allows you to take pictures with the press of a single button”. It was named "Trip" as a camera that could be easily taken on short trips, and was highly popular for 20 years with its high image quality, ease of use, and low failure rate until production was discontinued in 1984. Unlike the PEN series of half-frame cameras developed at the same time, this camera is capable of shooting at full 35mm size.
There are many appealing features of this camera, but one is its compactness. In addition to fitting in one hand, it weighs only 410 grams, making it extremely light. Its size and lightness make it easy to carry around with you, and you can quickly pull it out when you want to take a picture.
The Olympus Trip 35 has the D.Zuiko 40mm f/2.8 single-focal length lens, which is attached to the body of the camera. It's a very excellent lens.
It's also very easy to operate. No batteries are needed, and by setting the aperture to A (auto), all you have to do is wind the film around the camera, focus and release the shutter. And although it's easy to operate, its descriptive power is comparable to that of a single-lens reflex camera.
However, it is not a DSLR camera and the lens is not removable. Also, the viewfinder is not attached to the lens, but to the body of the camera (rangefinder). For focusing, it is necessary to adjust the approximate distance to the subject by eye measurement. But you can focus on the subject in a rough, intuitive way, and you'll get the picture just fine. You'll get used to it in no time. When shooting in dark places, an external strobe is required.
<Lens>
The Olympus TRIP 35 is equipped with the D.Zuiko 40mm f/2.8 lens. This lens is slightly wider than a standard lens, allowing you to capture a broader field of view than the naked eye can see. It is known for its versatile and user-friendly angle of view, making it an excellent choice for various shooting situations.
<Shutter speed>
When the camera is set to 'A' (auto), the shutter speed is automatically selected between 1/30 or 1/250 of a second; when the aperture ring is set to 'F', the shutter speed is fixed at 1/30 of a second.
<Focusing>
Focusing is achieved through a zone focusing system. To take a picture, estimate the distance to your subject visually and then select the icon on the lens that corresponds to that distance. There are four focus zones: 1m, 1.5m, 3m, and infinity. Simply turn the dial to the desired focus zone, and the camera will set the focus accordingly.
<Exposure>
Exposure is automatic. The shiny areas around the lens are solar cells (selenium photovoltaic) that generate electricity from light to power the exposure meter. If there is insufficient light for a proper exposure, a red flag will appear in the viewfinder, and the shutter will be locked, preventing you from taking an underexposed shot. This feature ensures that your photos will not be overly dark due to underexposure, making it a user-friendly camera for beginners.
