About

There's elements of strength and softness inside each of us

ar.row
-A sign indicating direction
-A long thing stick with a sharp point at one end and often feathers at the other
plume
-a long soft feather or arrangement used by a bird for display or worn by a person for ornament
- a long cloud of smoke or vapour resembling a feather

Hi, I’m Kristine and I’m the Owner and Designer of Arrow & Plume, an independent jewellery and accessories business based in Perth, Western Australia
Let me tell you a little about where it all began…

The Story

Working full time and feeling frustrated, I needed an outlet, something to burn off the creativity that was bubbling up inside of me. Lo and behold before I knew it I was forced out of work (I had a work injury that left me temporarily blinded) , so I thought well there’s no time like the present!

Initially I started off using large wooden beads, I really couldn’t see so I had to use only my sense of touch to feel where I had to string the beads onto. It took my mind off the pain, kept me occupied and I soon started to frequent my local beading stores which definitely saw my bank account decrease as the amount of beads I had increased.

Fast forward 10 years and I found myself in the same predicament- frustrated, desperate for a creative outlet. Working too much, forgetting to take time out for myself,

SO

I bought some tools and jewels and off I went.

In 2013 Arrow & Plume was born in Revelstoke, BC Canada and I gained some of my sanity back!
The name has a lot of symbolism and meaning to me My husband and I used to live near the Arrow Lakes near Revelstoke, BC and I also really love arrows. To me they are a symbol of strength, determination, resilience- always moving forward. Plume is an element of softness, a feather, a plume of smoke. All of which carry a lot of meaning in my life.
Together they are a play on words- think sun/moon, yin/yang, night/day representing the duality present in our lives.
There’s an element of strength and softness inside each of us. I try to convey this in my designs through the use of textures, colours, vintage chains and stones

The Elements

I hand select everything that is used in my designs – chains are carefully selected and most are vintage stock.

I hand shape, texture and drill a lot of my own shapes using a mix of new and recycled metals (if they are appropriate to use)

Crystals and minerals are purchased through ethical suppliers whenever possible

Packaging is recycled or made from sustainable materials

Unique components and pendants that I’ve sourced from around the globe full of texture, character and stories.

Since a lot of the chains and elements I use are vintage in nature, this means that sometimes certain designs will differ in colour, chain availability and style. All designs are produced in small runs.

The final products are modern bohemian adornments inspired by free thinkers, day dreamers, arrows, feathers, bohemian symbolism, bodies of water, mountains, lunar phases, the sky, crystals & minerals, gypsy souls and mindfulness. Produced in small runs, you can be sure you are getting a unique and thoughtful product.

There is a lot of mindfulness and care that goes into my designs, from the initial idea conception to the final production and I hope you love your jewellery and accessories as much as I loved creating them.

I was hesitant to start a business that was creative in nature. It’s like putting all of your feelings out there for others to see. I was always waiting for that “perfect time” to do this and then my husband said to me one day “There’s never a perfect time to do anything, you just have to do it and go for it.” He’s a smart man that one and he’s right. If you spend all of your time waiting for a perfect moment, sometimes that moment will never come. Take a risk in life and if it doesn’t pay off then at least you tried.

I’m looking forward to sharing more of Arrow & Plume with you all and expanding my business further. Currently the business is based in Perth, WA where my husband and I are currently living (I’m also born and raised here) I am working on new products, design development and some exciting collaborations in Perth, WA

So cheers to a bright and successful future!

Love, Kristine

Each piece i create is handmade and has a story behind it. My inspirations are travel, my encounters and my love of vintage objects. I try to source as many items on my travels as possible to incorporate into my pieces and tell the story of how that specific piece came to be what it is. As a lot of the materials i source are one-off or vintage items, please note that a lot of items will not be reproduced.
