Formed by nature, crafted by hand.

Hello Etsy-land and welcome!

My name is Kimberly Oberlin and I'm originally from the small town of Angola, Indiana, USA. I've always been a creator of arts and crafts for as long as I can remember...even as a small small child I'd be whipping up any crafty project my mom would be willing to show me. I didn't really get serious about art until the age of 14, when I enrolled in a ceramics class at Angola High...and I just simply fell in love with clay. I furthered my education in the visual arts at Indiana University’s School of Art. In 2004, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in ceramics and photography. Film photography was a dying art, and finding pottery studios outside the university environment was nearly impossible; so my art had to be put on hold for a while. After travelling the United States and Europe, I settled in Oregon in 2005 and was finally able to exploit my artistic interests by making jewellery (or "jewelry", for all of my American friends) for a little boutique jewellery shop in downtown Eugene. I found great joy in creating beautiful pieces and seeing my clients proudly wearing the results.

Throughout my travels, I met and fell in love with an Australian man...that's when I decided to make the big move to Brisbane, Australia in 2009. It wasn't until I moved to Brisbane that I reignited my love of ceramics. On discovering Windmill Potteries, a now rare boutique pottery, I was accepted into their internship program. After a year of working at Windmill, I chose to follow my dream of having my very own studio. In January 2014, I bought a wheel, a kiln and built my own pottery studio! :D

This is where I am today...getting filthy for countless hours in my studio and making countless glaze recipes that are being less and less disastrous. Sometimes I think I need to go back to uni and get a chemistry degree just so I can wrap my head around all of these glaze chemicals! lol. All of my pottery pieces are handmade by myself and 95% of my pieces are all individually hand-thrown on the potters wheel. I can also make pieces to order, so each piece will have a unique look, from how the glaze has melted...to how the shapes have been carved and how the finger indents have been made.

When I'm not covered in clay, I'm in my craft room making jewellery. All of the stones I use in my jewellery are genuine semi-precious stones. I search for beads, findings (and anything else I fancy) when I travel, and bring them back to Australia where I create! For this reason, many of my pieces are one of a kind. Even my sea glass pieces are found on the beaches of Asia, Australia, North and South America! But if you would like to have multiples of something, I just might be able to muster up something for you! Just ask! I'd also love to hear what you like, dislike, or just any kind of feedback you have so I can constantly improve my work.

I sell my work in several stores locally in Brisbane and I'm currently negotiating to expand that to other parts of Australia....and at last I have my very own Etsy store! So please, have a look around!

See something you like but want it more personalized? I'm more than happy to make custom pieces in my pottery and jewellery. Just message me and I'll try to make it happen!

I ship all of my items using AusPost. (Australian postal service)

For orders throughout Australia, Auspost suggests to allow 2-4 business days to most Australian cities.

Insurance:

All domestic shipping for my pottery includes insurance in the shipping price. However jewellery and any international orders do not include insurance, but you can add it as an option during checkout. Insurance both covers lost and/or damaged items. I highly recommend purchasing insurance. I package my items very well, but unfortunately breakages still happen from time to time and it's worth spending the few extra dollars to cover it.

If your order is a gift that is going directly to the recipient, I can include a personal message from you for no extra charge. If you would like this service please let me know what you would like me to write in the "Note to EarthandStone byKimmi" during checkout.

Items *lost* through mail:

I will try and work out a resolution. Please report a missing item to me ASAP so I may do what I can to resolve the issue. Some cases of missing or lost items can be simply resolved by checking in with your local post office. Again, all domestic orders have tracking, it will have a tracking number where we can track the parcel and if it doesn't arrive, insurance will fully cover any missing item. Please communicate any issues that may arise with your product.
