From rescue to EWE.....saving animals one at a time

I rescued our first sheep Trudy in 2006. You can read her story here http://honeyspledge.org/2013/08/26/trudy-a-road-side-rescue/

Since then our rescue flock has expanded to over 120 sheep, four alpacas and many goats. They are part of our animal rescue project, Honey's Pledge.

We do not breed any animals and our sheep will remain with us for their natural lifespan. Our sheep and alpacas graze on our 300 acre property in central Victoria. We manage the property to organic standards. To learn more see http://easternhillorganicfarm.com/ .

As part of their care our sheep and alpacas must be shorn every year, prior to our hot Australian summer.

As an advocate for animals I am very aware of the cruelty involved in commercial production of fleece, including the live export of millions of ex-wool sheep from Australia every year. I had been looking for natural alternatives to down filled doonas (duvets) when I realised I had the solution in our paddocks and set about making our own wool filled doona. In researching how to clean and card the fleeces I became interested in spinning and felting using fleece. I wanted to give others the opportunity to access our fleece and at the same time support our rescue project.

So now I use the fleece from our rescue animals to provide an ethical, cruelty free product.
In 2018 our exciting new mill produced top and yarns became available. All processed within 100k of our property in small scale family run mill.

We have ethical

* yarn in natural white and a selection of dyed yarns...natural organic plant based of course!
* commercial wool top (roving) and carded batts
* raw fleeces
* fleece dryer balls

We are also happy to make to order.

Any profit from our sales directly supports our animal rescue project Honey's Pledge.

    I have always had an affinity with animals. As a child I cared for the lovely Wilma sheep, who lived in our garden with my pony (it was a big garden!). I now care for nearly 200 rescued animals on our property in Australia.

Care instructions

Our fleece and fleece products must be treated with care.

* Please use only natural gentle detergents and cold or luke warm water to wash.
* Wash gently by hand only.
* Avoid agitating the fleece.
* Avoid any sudden changes in water temperature.
* Gently roll yarn and made up items in a towel to remove excess water.
* Dry flat, reshaping the item.

Please contact us with any questions.

EWE cannot accept any responsibility for damage to our product once received by the buyer.

How is the fleece sourced?

All fleeces used are from our rescue sheep and alpacas. We do not breed and the animal will live out their natural life with us. Other items, such as plants for smudge sticks are grown on our property. Other materials used in the making are sourced responsibly.

How is the fleece and yarn prepared?

Our sheep and alpacas are shorn once a year in the spring, before the summer heat. We use a shearer who is sensitive to the needs of each animal. They are shorn on our property.

I prepare small batches of fleece and yarn personally using rainwater from our tanks, mild environmentally responsible detergents, and fresh air and sunshine.

Batts are made using swing picker and a drum carder and yarns are hand spun by me.

Our commercially produced roving and yarns are made 100% from our fleece, scoured at a small scale plant and processed at a local family run mill, all within 100k of our property.
