Little did I know when I travelled the world in my twenties that I would end up where I am today. Images of vibrant African women in their coloured fabrics and Indian women drying endlessly long and freshly dyed saris first inspired me to hand stitch my birds of many flamboyant colours.

From my home in the Dandenong Ranges just outside Melbourne, I am surrounded by wilderness and am frequently visited by birds of many different types, including peacocks that belong to neighbouring properties but roam wide and free.

Unarguably the most majestic bird on our planet, the peacock is a symbol of life renewal and fertility. Their remarkable plumage and dazzling display always reminds me to slow down and take pleasure in life.

My love of nature as well as quality natural fibres is intrinsic to my work, and the detailed decorative embroidery stitching takes me many hours to complete, hence they resonate in the special way that only truly handmade things can.

One of the things that I love about my work is the simplicity of using a needle and thread, proving that it is possible to make beautiful creations without the use of a sewing machine. Mostly I work from home, however I also like to pass the time on the train on my way to my work in the city, and my portable peacocks are perfect for this purpose.

Lovingly designed and handmade by me, each bird is designed with astounding symmetry that makes them wonderfully fun to imagine in any natural or man made habitat.
