Announcement   Hello and welcome to Fixie’s Shelf. Nothing gives me more pleasure than making stuff, and once it's made, I put it on my shelf to make it available to you. I am an individual artist working from home, and I do everything I can to minimise my impact on the environment and my involvement in the mass market.

When you buy from me, you support an individual artist to do what I love most, which is make art and raise awareness about important issues such as:

* what it's really like to be Deaf and
* being more inclusive of gender diversity, and
* helping young boys understand why feminism is important.

If you'd like to know more about me and what I do, pop over to my website, www.asphyxia.com.au - from there you can find me on my blog, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and more.

I have a newsletter especially for this shop. Sign up if you'd like an insight into behind-the-scenes process, receive subscriber discounts, and be notified when there's an influx of new products in my shop. I've got a gorgeous give-away for you when you sign up: a high resolution collage image of my work which you can use as a desktop background, a screen saver, print as a poster, cut up to paste in your journal, or make cards and mail art to send your loved ones.

If you like my stuff, you might like to subscribe to my Facebook page where I post new items and also my other creative experiments. You'll get the back story of lots of the pieces I make too. Several of my pieces sell soon after I list them on Facebook, so if you have been missing out, that's the place to go to snap up a bargain at short notice.

About

I want to inspire you to live the way you want to live.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than making stuff. I create so much that I cannot possibly keep it all. I started my Etsy shop, Fixie’s Shelf, as a way of finding loving and appreciative homes for all the characters and ideas that pop out of my imagination. This has allowed to be able to focus on it full time.

Through the items on my shelf, I invite you to step into another world, one filled with quirky characters and a touch of magic. Read The Grimstones’ book series, which feature gothic marionettes and an upcycled assemblage world which I made myself. The Grimstones and I toured the world, performing on stages at major arts centres, before it was sandwiched between book pages.

I still love making dolls and assemblage boxes, and have recently learnt new papier mache techniques from Julie Arkell, which are finding their way into sweet and quirky figures on my shelf. I also paint the quaint people of my imagination, who always have beautiful, alluring faces and often a touch of darkness about them, too.

I make stuff so prolifically that my shelf doesn't have room for all the quirky characters and ideas that pop out of my imagination. I love painting portraits, stitching, metal-smithing, papier-mâché-ing, cutting stencils and carving rubber stamps.

Hello and welcome to Fixie's Shelf. Nothing gives me more pleasure than making stuff, and once it's made, I put it on my shelf to make it available to you. I am an individual artist working from home, and I do everything I can to minimise my impact on the environment and my involvement in the mass market.

While I do need to buy some essential supplies and tools new, I upcycle whenever possible, and often the wear and tear from old items brings an authenticity to the pieces I make. I source many of my materials from thrift stores and hard rubbish.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns and exchanges
Contact me within: 14 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 30 days of delivery
I don't accept cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalised orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
I will offer a refund if you are unsatisfied with your product - please return it to me at your own expense. If the item is damaged I am also happy to refund - just let me know what your issue is. I cannot refund/replace items lost in the mail - it is your responsibility to upgrade to Registered Mail.
Payment
You are welcome to pay via Etsy direct checkout or Paypal.

Some of my items are currently at the Women’s Hospital in Melbourne - you are welcome to pick up from there and pay with a credit card when you do so.

I also welcome layby / payment plans. Just contact me to let me know
- what you’d like to buy
- how much you can afford to pay in each instalment
- whether you’d like to pay weekly, monthly or fortnightly.

For commissions, I will need payment in full before I schedule and start your work.
Shipping
I ship using Australia Post. Sadly the days of overnight shipping are over and customers report it can take some time for a parcel to arrive. Very occasionally a parcel goes astray - for this reason I recommend that you use the Registered Mail shipping upgrade, especially for items over $50. I cannot take responsibility for items lost in the mail - you will need to use your tracking number to address this with Australia Post.

Once a fortnight, I ship all recent orders by customers. Since I have some health issues and travel a bit, the wait can sometimes be longer. Please let me know if your order is urgent and I will do my best to accomodate.
Additional policies and FAQs
You are welcome to ask me for custom items. To find out more about commissioned works, please check out this page here:
