Frog and hank originated from being a maker. As I started to learn more about the environmental impacts the fashion and textile industry produces, I started to feel overwhelmed. As if anything I was to make would just add to the problem of waste and pollution. I have always been an avid knitter and making clothes was my passion. I realized the only sustainable way to make clothes is through knitting or crocheting, because there is no waste cut. With a conscious move to try and just knit, I started to think about the impact my yarn has. I wanted to move away from plastics in the yarn I use and make with discarded sweaters. frog and hank was born to not only allow me to be more sustainable in my making practice, but to help others as well.

Our name frog and hank derives from the process of making. Frogging is the process of deconstructing and unraveling a sweater to harvest the yarn. The term frogging came from rip, rip, riping, of a sweater sounding like "ribbit, ribbit, ribbit" of a frog.
Then hank is the measure of yarn we turn the reclaimed yarn into.

Once we measure out the yarn depending on how fine the yarn is we spin the threads into a heavier weight yarn. Then we wash the yarn twice to not only clean but remove the kinks that are on the yarn from the recycling process.
