It’s me, a few printers running in the corner, and a stack of prototypes that didn’t make the cut but still stare at me from the shelf. I love talking with makers, fursuiters, and new hobbyists who are diving into their first build.

Frequently asked questions

Are PLA and TPU safe and stable for fursuit applications?

Yes. Both materials are widely used by professional makers in the fandom. PLA is non-toxic, lightweight, and holds fine sculpted details very well. TPU is a flexible, skin-safe elastomer that resists impact and doesn’t shatter under pressure. When padded and lined, the interior is comfortable and stable for extended wear. Our prints do not off-gas once completed, and we allow every piece to fully cool and cure before packaging.

What size are the head bases, and what does 25–29 cm mean in wearable terms?

Our standard bases measure 25–29 cm in height, which is approximately 9.8"–11.4". This range fits most adult makers comfortably after padding. It offers enough internal volume for foam lining, ventilation, optional fans, wiring channels, and fur layers while maintaining good visibility and jaw leverage. The size is intentionally chosen to balance aesthetic accuracy with practical comfort during long wear at conventions or events.

How do I know if the head base will fit me personally?

Our default scale accommodates most adult head shapes. The interior is intentionally hollow and open, giving you freedom to tailor-fit using upholstery foam, mesh straps, or EVA spacers. If your head circumference is smaller or larger than average, the padding method allows for highly customized fit. Most makers find they can create a comfortable, secure wear experience even with minimal adjustments.

How heat-sensitive is PLA, and how should I store the finished base?

PLA should be kept away from prolonged high heat, especially inside vehicles during summer, direct sunlight, or near heaters. Fully furred suits provide some insulation, but the safest practice is storing your head in a cool indoor space. PLA softens at around 55–60°C (131–140°F), so avoid heat guns directly on the print surface. TPU areas are more forgiving but should still be treated with care.

How durable is TPU, and where do you use it on the head base?

TPU is extremely resilient and is often used in phone cases, flexible hinges, and protective gear. We incorporate TPU into areas where flexibility improves performance—jaw sections, mounting points, or edge reinforcements. TPU helps reduce breakage risk and gives you more freedom in modifying or installing hardware such as hinges, fans, or elastic moving-jaw systems.

How smooth is the exterior surface for furring and finishing?

We print at a professional resolution of 0.16–0.20 mm with tuned slicer settings that reduce layer lines and minimize post-processing. Most makers only need light sanding or a foam wrap to achieve a clean, professional fur finish. The contours and expression lines are intentionally sculpted to remain visible even after furring, helping guide symmetry during the build.

What print quality standards do you follow?

Each base undergoes a multi-step quality check. We inspect for adhesion consistency, internal uniformity, cooling stability, and artifact-free contours. If a piece fails any part of the review, it does not ship. We also hand-trim minor support remnants so you receive a base that’s clean, even, and ready to build on right out of the box.

Do you offer fully custom character head base commissions?

At this time, I do not offer full custom sculpt commissions. My focus is on producing reliable, well-designed bases optimized for building. However, I can adjust sizing and minor shape elements such as ear angle or cavity thickness. For complete custom species or unique character anatomy, you may message me for recommendations to other sculptors who specialize in bespoke models.

How should I clean or maintain the head base before finishing?

Before furring, you can wipe the base with a soft cloth dampened with water or mild soap. Avoid harsh solvents such as acetone or alcohol, which may weaken PLA or discolor TPU. Once installed in a full suit, maintenance depends more on the outer materials, but the internal print structure requires very little care.

Can I share my finished suit with you? Do you feature maker work?

Absolutely — it makes my day. Builders put so much creativity into their characters, and I love seeing what you create with my bases. If you send photos or tag me, I often feature completed builds on product pages or shop updates (with your permission). The furry community thrives on collaboration, and I’m always happy to support other makers.
