Artist Bio
Hi, and welcome to Gears of Clay! I’m Erin Laferriere—owner, maker, and the hands behind every piece you see. My pottery journey began in 2012 at the Community College of Rhode Island, where a single ceramics class quickly sparked a lifelong passion. Since then, I’ve been working toward turning that passion into a full-time career—one handmade mug at a time.
I specialize in functional pottery with a creative twist—think bowls, plates, jewelry holders, and especially mugs (my favorite thing to make!). You'll notice they’re a big part of my shop. My true artistic focus is on steampunk-inspired stoneware. I love breathing life into this imaginative style, combining industrial elements with timeless pottery forms to create pieces that are both bold and functional.
My Process:
All of my pottery is made using stoneware clay for durability and everyday use. Each piece is hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel, with additional elements either hand-built or imprinted for detail. Once shaped, the piece is bisque fired, hand-glazed with food-safe finishes, and then high-fired in a gas kiln at 2,388°F to achieve lasting strength and rich, vibrant color.
Thank you so much for visiting my shop and supporting my dream—it means the world to me!
