About

Vive la Hanky Revolution!

Love trees? Love handkerchiefs...

I've always loved trees and have made an effort to use paper wisely and to recycle. In 2016 I decided to stop buying tissues and use hankies instead. It was one of the best decisions I've made - my nose is never chafed, my garbage is greatly reduced, and I save money in the long run.
I looked everywhere for hankies that suited my tastes - Liberty print and manly stripes were not appealing to me, especially if I was going to use the hanky in public. After much searching, I came to the conclusion that if hankies were to become an everyday necessity again (like in my grandmother's day), they needed to be cool and modern. And so my zero waste initiative, the Hanky Revolution was born.
Inspired and motivated, I signed up for a course on screen-printing yardage so I could create lengths of fabric of original designs. I drew my first designs in that course and printed them. Straightaway, people loved them and wanted to know how they could buy them. Before I could even start an Etsy page or a website, I was selling them via Facebook.
The war on waste and zero waste is gaining huge popularity in Australia and it's exciting to see handkerchief usage is on the rise again.
I will be adding new designs regularly, often in short runs of different styles and colours, so make sure you snap up the hankies you like when you see them! Please follow Hanky Revolution on social media so you can see what's happening in the studio and get a heads up on new designs.
Vive la revolution!

I've always loved trees and was inspired to start making handkerchiefs after quitting tissues in 2016. I want to make hankies cool again! I do it all myself: draw the designs, screen print them and machine-stitch the hems. #zerowaste
