Em 1973 abri o Estúdio com o conceito de que a escultura não precisa necessariamente ser lançada em bronze ou esculpida em mármore e, portanto, apenas acessível pelos ricos. Materiais alternativos e as mais recentes técnicas de moldagem devem ser capazes de trazer escultura ao alcance de quase todos.
Durante as últimas 4 décadas pude colocar essa ideia em prática e tive a satisfação e o prazer de ver meu trabalho encontrar seu caminho para as casas de literalmente milhões de pessoas.
À medida que continuo com esse conceito em uma quinta década, a internet fornece um meio de levar essa ideia um passo adiante, conectando-se diretamente a uma miríade de pessoas algumas das quais já estão familiarizadas com o meu trabalho, colecionadores talvez, outras a quem ela é nova.
As outras forças por trás do meu trabalho foram meu amor pelo mundo natural e, em particular, pelas criaturas selvagens que o habitam e meu desejo de vê-los protegidos. Eu sempre senti que o uso mais útil das minhas habilidades é criar belas e comoventes representações dessas criaturas que as pessoas poderiam trazer para suas casas e suas vidas ou dom para outros cuja empatia por essas criaturas pode ser nutrida por sua proximidade.
À medida que entro em meus anos "maduros", sou motivado por um senso de urgência para esculpir o máximo possível das belas, fascinantes ou ameaçadas criaturas que omiti até agora e também para resculpar muitas das peças que criei décadas atrás, quando estava apenas começando como escultora.
Assim, nesta loja você encontrará uma mistura de peças recém-criadas e outras que já existem há algum tempo, mas que não estarão disponíveis por muito mais tempo.
Back in 1973 I opened the Studio with the concept that sculpture need not necessarily be cast in bronze or carved out of marble and thus only affordable by the wealthy. Alternative materials and the very latest molding techniques should be able to bring sculpture within the reach of almost everybody.
During the past 4 decades I have been able to put this idea into practice and had the satisfaction and pleasure of seeing my work find its way into the homes of literally millions of people.
As I continue this concept into a fifth decade, the internet provides a means of taking this idea one step further by connecting directly to a myriad of folk some of whom are already familiar with my work, collectors maybe, others to whom it is new.
The other forces behind my work have been my love of the natural world and in particular the wild creatures that inhabit it and my desire to see them protected. I have always felt that the most helpful use of my abilities is to create beautiful and moving renditions of these creatures that people could bring into their homes and their lives or gift to others whose empathy for these creatures might be nurtured by their proximity.
As I head into my "mature" years, I am motivated by a sense of urgency to sculpt as many as possible of the beautiful or fascinating or endangered creatures that I have omitted so far and also to resculpt many of the pieces that I created decades ago when I was just starting out as a sculptor.
So in this store you will find a mixture of newly created pieces and others that have been around for a while but which will not be available for very much longer.
