From the ripe old age of four I was obsessed with sparkling gems. Coming from Sydney and a family of diamond cutters and merchants, I worked most of my adult life in retail and sales at home in Australia or abroad. I worked in fashion or beauty and got my sales grounding, working in Double Bay and later in Myer for Christian Dior and also in John Lewis's for Charles of the Ritz, in London.

I opened my own Christian Dior salon in Adelaide and later worked in Real Estate in Perth and then for family enterprises abroad. Whilst living the life of an ex pat again, I became interested in designing pearl jewellery and was self taught. My friends encouraged me by purchasing multiple items on a regular basis and then I began sourcing more suppliers, designing, manufacturing, marketing and selling and enjoyed every aspect in my new field. It was an outlet for my artistic spirit.

On returning home to Australia in 2000, I brought my love of pearl jewellery with me. I supplied more than a few retailers, fashion boutiques, hotel boutiques, Duty Free and even St George's Cathedral in Perth. I had a great time launching my label Julleen, and My Bridal Jewellery and accessorized models in fashion parades with my jewellery, attended trade shows and loved doing the odd fashion shoots. I also helped raise funds for charities by donating Julleen Jewellery to auction, at several gala events for Juvenile Diabetes and other Cancer charities.

Recently I've slowed down for family reasons and now virtually all my sales are online. I found Etsy and thought I'd give marketing globally a go. Here we are at Etsy! Let's see!

I am a great believer that conservative, classical jewellery with a twist of the "not ordinary" stands the test of time. I therefore create pieces I like myself, that will appeal to many but usually to the girl, who wants her jewellery to last, rather than to follow very quick turnover fashion trends. Buying on trend, rather than for the love of quality can see things quickly breaking, then just gathering dust in a drawer. I build pieces to last and to wear often. I hate waste and second rate jewellery and anything that's just "ordinary" and love Real with Substance! I get a kick out of seeing past customers still wearing my designs today, some 18 years on!
