Adaptable learning tools for curious kids
Kea Kids Lab is inspired by one of New Zealand’s most curious and clever natives: the kea (pronounced keh-ah). Kea are known for their playful problem-solving, persistence, and habit of exploring how things work. They learn by experimenting, adjusting, and trying again — and that spirit is at the heart of everything created here.
I’m a parent of two very different children, and over the years I’ve built and adapted games, activities, and learning tools to suit different personalities, interests, and ways of thinking. Along the way, hands-on play, visual thinking, and flexible routines became essential — especially resources that could be used in more than one way.
Like many parents, I often found that downloaded printables looked good but didn’t quite work in real life. They were too rigid, too busy, or too much like schoolwork. So I began designing our own — games and activities that encourage thinking, discussion, and confidence, while still feeling genuinely fun.
Kea Kids Lab grew from those real experiences at home. Today, it’s a collection of screen-free learning games and printables designed to be played together, revisited often, and adapted to the children using them.
Everything here is created to spark kea-style curiosity, support independent thinking, and make learning feel like play.
Thank you for being here — I hope these resources become part of your family’s everyday discoveries.
