Creating ART to warm the HEART!
Who am I?
My name is Hayden Hopkins and I am a student at Littleton High School in Colorado. I have a Pyrenees Mix named Rory. I am left-handed, and love to read, write, and draw.
Currently, my favorite books are: Out of My Mind, The Hunger Games, and To Kill a Mockingbird.
Why I like art and what inspires me…
I love art because it helps me relax. I love to draw animals and nature and love to spend time outdoors walking and hiking. I love to travel and have been fortunate to travel to Asia, Africa and Europe.
How I got started…
I started by making bookmarks for my classmates for holiday gifts and later decided to make and sell them in the neighborhood and to family and friends. My very first Lightner design was a Golden Retriever doing the yoga pose “down dog.” My mom was having her yoga class over to our house and asked me to make a welcome sign. We kept it and later used it for a card.
For my 11th birthday (September 2018) my parents loaned me money to launch LightnerDesigns. “Lightner” is my middle name. Both my family and friends have supported me by giving me advice and many have bought cards.
What is my process for creating cards?
To make the note cards, I draw or paint an image, then scan the art and upload it to the computer. I edit any unwanted pencil or paint marks and get it ready for print. After the picture has been edited, it's emailed to the printer. Once printed, we fold and package them to sell.
What is my vision?
I hope to continue to improve as an artist and grow my business!
