This item...What can I even say about this incredibly well-fitting, divine, slinky, sexy, beautiful piece of absolutely exquisite tailoring? I was in a play, hence the purchase, set in 1913. The skirt arrived several days before expected, which was a lovely surprise due to the fact I ordered it late in comparison to the start of dress rehearsals--and I'm in the States, so she was true to her word about when she was sending it out! I wore it for all three dress rehearsals, and all five shows, and it had only just begun to stretch out a bit on the night of the last show--I was in the skirt for, gee, six hours each time I wore it. So it was wonderful. It'll be washed soon and line-dried, just to give it back its spring. I have literally never felt sexier or more beautiful in my life. Thank you so much!

I just received this item today 8-27-14 and I am so excited!! I had to sign for receiving the package and it came well packaged with a thank you note from the maker herself. I tried on the skirt and it fit perfectly, so the measurements listed were true to size which is always a concern when purchasing through the mail and the print is exactly like the the photo online. Needless to say I am completely thrilled with the skirt and I would love to purchase other items from Maisy Brown in the future, Thank you!!!?
A Vintage Love Affair
I'll admit it: I'm hopelessly nostalgic. While I confess I do appreciate many of the conveniences of our modern world, the things I value most are those objects and experiences which require individual attention, imagination, hands-on skill, and an investment of time and love to bring to fruition. The soul of a thing is what interests and excites me most - the depths and nuances imparted via an object travelling through time and history, or through the personal, loving attention of a craftsperson, artist, musician, gardener, potter, home-maker or cook. That yen of mine for detail, quality and individuality inevitably leads me to surrounding myself with vintage items and handmade objects in my own home: I'm firmly committed to up-cycling, re-cycling and re-using wherever possible.
However, beyond the personal political commitment, it's the charm of vintage furniture, fabric and clothing that appeals to me, along with the opportunity to re-imagine an item from an earlier time in a new setting and in a new way. I've been doing this for years with vintage clothing for my own personal use; a passion which grew, organically, into my small, home-based vintage reproduction fashion business, Maisy Brown Repro Retro.
If you've come across my shop before you may wonder why I closed my store for a year. After several years of fits and starts with the business I realized I needed to acquire the business and management skills I sorely lacked and which I could tell were holding me back. After time off for study and re-grouping, I've re-opened my store. Along with my High Waist Fishtail Wiggle Skirt, I'll be offering pencil skirts, bombshell dresses, sundresses and sunsuits in a selection of vintage-inspired fabrics, all made to order to ensure best fit for all variety of shapes and sizes.
Some of my cotton bridesmaid dresses were recently featured in the magazine The Vintage and Handmade Bride, a great guide to the new 'vintage' style of weddings. Available in newsagents Australia-wide.
Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator
I ADORE vintage clothes, fabric and patterns, and first started playing around with them at about age five. All these years later, the obsession continues...

Refunds and Exchanges
If there's a problem with your garment I will do my utmost to rectify it if I am somehow at fault (I will replace or refund a garment which I have sent out in the wrong size); however, I won't automatically refund or exchange if you mistakenly purchase the incorrect size or provide incorrect measurements.
If you'd like to return your item, I will accept a return and refund the cost of the item only - not the postage charge (I can't afford to subsidize you buying and trying a garment). In order to avoid fraud I will only refund the cost of the garment (less postage) after I receive the returned item.
If your item gets lost or damaged in transit I will handle the paperwork to ensure compensation, but you MUST keep all original wrappings and packaging so we can make our case to the postal services (that means, don't throw anything out! And take photos of the condition in which it arrived).
Cancellation of a custom order more than 3 days after purchase will result in forfeit of your deposit.

CUSTOM ORDER DISCLAIMER: I love custom orders! If you look at my feedback, you'll see that my number one priority is to get your fit right so you get the most from your special garment. To that end, I provide detailed guidance/instructions and/or diagrams to assist you measure correctly. If you are purchasing a garment for someone else (eg a bridesmaid or girlfriend) it's up to you to ensure these instructions are followed. However, fitting long-distance can be tricky, not least because I'm relying on you, the customer, to provide me with accurate measurements.
