About

Mountain Clay ceramics

My pieces are wheel thrown or constructed from slabs and pinch pots to create unique pieces that I love. I rarely make the same piece twice and when I do they tend to vary in size, pattern and glaze so if you like a piece grab it while you can!
My work is inspired by the mountains where I live in the Kinglake Ranges in Australia. I also have memories from traveling to China as a child and seeing the dramatic mountains near Beijing, which seem to grow out of nowhere. The tree motif has gone through a few changes since I went through a major bushfire, from straight blackness to re-growth and now full trees again. The magnificent Mountain Ash gums on our property are huge and towering and are my main inspiration. I’m also interested in the contours and typography of the landscape and use engraved lines to show these and to give movement to my pieces. I am influenced by nature, the stillness in the forest, the leaves and branches in the wind, rocks, water, what is left behind and buried and the concept that ‘grass will grow over your cities’1.Anselm Keifer 2010.

Hello and welcome to Mountain Clay. Mountain Clay is run from my studio is Kinglake Central on the beautiful mountain ranges above Melbourne. I hand make all the ceramics pieces here, from the designing to the making, decorating, glazing and firing. I am inspired by the huge Mountain Ash gum trees and mountains that surround me here in Kinglake Central. Please message me if you have any questions about my work, or about your purchase. Don't forget to visit my website at mountainclay.weebly.com to see all my work and to visit my blog.

Returns and exchanges
I don't accept returns, exchanges or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
I will refund or replace any pieces broken during postage. Any pieces broken after opening your package will not be reimbursed. Change of mind does not warrant a refund.

I refund any overpayment of postage and handling. Postage and handling also involves packaging materials, such as bubble wrap, not just the postage.

If there are any other problems please don't hesitate to contact me, I want you to be happy with your purchase. My work is rustic in appearance and not industrial perfect, there are usually some iron spots from the firing process.
