I fell in love with this calendar's artwork online, and the in-person product absolutely meets all my expectations. Love the whimsical art style, and the calendar arrived promptly given the international shipping, and was in good condition on arrival. Couldn't be more pleased!

About

Smokybunny, Art by Nana Sakata

Smokybunny originally came into existence as a way to talk about Nana's little creatures and the world they inhabit. Her little creatures are brought to life by placing individual dots of ink on a page using architectural pens to build up a shape, almost out of nothing, like a cloud of smoke. These little creatures have been a staple of Nana's artwork since graduating from Sydney College of the Arts.

Nana has continued to explore the natural world with her little creatures as they interact with the real and the imagined. The illustrations are done not only for the young, but also the young at heart. Nana's work is about allowing for an escape into another reality, where shadows come alive, bunnies appear like magic and her little creatures march off, looking for adventure and excitement.

The illustrations are both representations of Nana's own stories and also an open invitation for the viewer to begin a story of their own. The work so often looks to when innocence and unruliness went hand in hand, when emotions were not expected to be filtered.
