Video summary: A little video to show some of the work we do to make our handmade leather journals.

Books? We like them, we like them a lot....!

Hey there! We are Marcus and Paula, two best mates working from a small home bindery in Margaret River, Western Australia. As well as creating hand bound journals and books, we also provide a book repair and restoration service, and offer training and workshops in bookbinding techniques.

We share a passion for all things book related. Reading them, making them, repairing them, the leather, the book cloth, the paper, the tools! We love it all! This goes hand in hand with a strong belief in the value of preserving traditional, artisan crafts, skills, and appreciation.

We are very lucky to have acquired many antique original bindery tools over the years and such are able to create our books using authentic materials and equipment. However, we are not averse to incorporating and experimenting with modern technology in some of our processes as well. Blending time tested knowledge and skills with new technology to create long lasting and unique products.

We particularly enjoy making personalised books. It's wonderful to help people realise their ideas and have them transformed into tangible, beautiful journals. Creating special items that have a high sentimental value, whilst also being functional and useful is very much our aim.

As with all things artisan, our books take time to make and will show their maker's mark in little ways that make our books both unique and precious.

Have fun browsing our store and feel free to visit our website, Facebook, Instagram, or drop us a line!

I love to read, restore, repair and make books. My favourite thing, is to see the smile on peoples faces when they pick up a book from our bindery. I really enjoy integrating traditional artisan skills with modern technology.

  • Paula

    Owner, Maker

The bindery is my happy place! From trying out new ideas, and playing with new materials, to simply cutting, folding, and sewing pages. I love the whole process. Bookbinding is very satisfying work!

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

We custom engrave each of our personalised journals here in the bindery. Keeping this 'in-house' allows us to engrave one-off logos, custom images as well as text. If you want something specific engraved onto one of our leather journals, send us a message to discuss what we can do!

Gift wrapping and packaging

All our journals come wrapped as standard. We wrap our products sensibly and securely, using a variety of recyclable and compostable packing products. We won’t include any invoicing or price details inside the gift wrapped package. However, we do like to include a personal message that will be in the outer wrapping.
We now have the option to add a little extra sparkle at checkout for something a little bit special, choose "Gift Wrapping".

Care instructions

Our leather journals are made with beautiful, genuine leathers from Australia and New Zealand. As this is a natural product you may find some scratches/blemishes/stretch marks ingrained into the leather. This is what makes every single piece unique! The finish on the leather (raw cacao and crazy horse) is intentionally prone to scuffs and scratches, giving it a wonderfully aged look. Most surface scratches can be removed by giving it a wipe with a damp cloth, we do not recommend using polishes.

Wholesale availability

Whilst we do not have the current capacity to offer true wholesale pricing, we can offer discounts on larger batch orders. We currently custom make batches of our products for local businesses to retail and also work with businesses seeking to create custom products that incorporate their own logos and branding. We would love to work with you to produce a unique product to fit your needs.
