A beautiful little pendant, the pearl has great lustre and the workmanship of the silver was of high standards. The seller posted the item in less then 24hrs and delivery was prompt. The pendant came beautifully presented in a stylish gift box.

About

Brisbane designer Tina Horton shares her passion for crafting unique Jewelry & Lapidary pieces.

First off I think about myself as a designer not an artist. To me an artists is someone who has a concept in their head, sits down and creates it. A designer on the other hand takes elements at hand and places them together to create a work of art that is appealing to the eye.

I have always had a fasciation with rocks, dirt and jewellery this lead me to join the Mt Gravatt lapidary Society in 2007, from this moment on my life would change. In the 8 years I have been apart of the society I have learned how to handle saws, cut cabochon, cut freeform, facet a stone and create interesting jewellery pieces. However my involvement in the society has evolved from being the student to now being an instructor.

In 2011 I entered my first lapidary competition and believe or not I won a couple of prizes, if that doesn’t surprise you it did me! I have been the society’s club champion now for 3 years and it is a rolling joke that I am the person to beat. However what people don’t realise is the secret to my success is very simple, love what you do! One of my biggest loves is the love of learning and this impacts on my jewellery as I am always experimenting with new techniques and incorporating these into my designs.

The biggest influence in my work is nature, I especially love water, the way it flows, the impact it has on rocks and the animals that have adapted to be so graceful underwater. You will see this influence throughout all my work (or I do), it tends to flow like the different natural bodies of water. For example a piece may be still and peaceful like a lake however the next piece I create may be hectic and chaotic, like a white water rapid. You will find other elements of nature in my work like the shape of the leaf on a tree or just a tree itself. As I mentioned above I love lapidary and rocks, gems and minerals will be incorporated into my jewellery making, sometimes just a small highlight other times they are the main element.

As a person who loves to learn, this leads to the need to experience all aspects of life, different cultures and foods. For me to be able to truly experience all that life has to offer you have to travel and it is not something that can be done from the comfort of your recliner. If you visit my shop at any stage and discover I am having a break then chances are I am off experiencing a different side of life and in an exciting different country.
