About

Why am I a Yarn Snob?

I grew up in the 1970s - a time when polyester leisure suits were king and anything knitted was made of 100% acrylic. Those years scarred me for life!

Don't get me wrong - manmade fibers have their place. You generally wouldn't make baby clothes out of cashmere or silk and I learned the hard way that when making socks, you need to have SOME synthetic content or those gorgeous lace confections will be holed the second time you wear them (don't ask - very sad story!)

But if I am going to make something for myself, I want it to feel luscious next to my skin, to breathe well - especially in a climate like Australia's and to wash like a dream. So when I buy yarn, I want something that makes me sing when I touch it. I sing for silk, merino, Blue-Faced Leicester, cashmere, yak, angora and even some of the newer fibers like milky, bamboo and sugar cane.

And if I am going to spend hours and hours making something beautiful, it has to feel and wear beautifully too. So if you are looking for beautifully-constructed, lovingly crafted stylish knits, you have come to the right place.

Welcome, fellow yarn snob!

Spent my first 30 years in the US before being 'imported' into Australia by the love of my life. I've been here for the last 25 years but have only started to knit seriously since my children started to leave home. Would knit all day if I was allowed

Welcome to the home of Yarn Snob Down Under. All items are hand knit in Australia by the finest possible yarns using the prettiest possible patterns. I personally love lace and cables and am starting to experiment with colourwork (Fair Isle, Bohus etc) so look to see some listings for those items shortly.

Payment
Payment would be appreciated within 3 days of purchase. If you need more time, please convo me and I am happy to work something out.
Shipping
If an item is in stock, it will be packed and posted within 1 business day (we live in a country area so we have no weekend mail at all so buy and pay on Friday and it will post on Monday). I have tried to keep my shipping costs as reasonable as possible but if you are purchasing multiple items and the price seems to be adding up to the sky - message me and I will weigh them all together and give you the cheapest possible shipping options. I want to make a living from knitting - not from shipping!
Refunds and Exchanges
Please consider your purchases carefully. Since these items are all individually hand-knit, I will not accept a return because you changed your mind or decided that the colour isn't right. I will however, gladly refund anyone whose order was sent in error or if an item is defective due to my error (hasn't happened yet, but there is a first time for everything :-) Please contact me if you have any concerns at all.
Additional policies and FAQs
Many of the yarns I use are (sadly) discontinued. I do have options available for similar outcomes should you see something you want but the colour just isn't 'you'. Get in touch by convo and we can work something out. I'm happy to send you images and information about other yarns that will give you a fantastic finished item in a colour to suit you or your gift recipient. If I have that yarn in stock, it will be shipped to you within 3 weeks (usually much shorter but I like to cover my derriere :-). If the yarn needs to be ordered, I will discuss with you the length of time before your custom order will be completed. If a disaster happens (wool goes missing in the mail, I break a finger, the world stops turning...), I will ALWAYS contact you with a status update so you will know where you stand with your purchase.
