Announcement   YOKO KAWABATA DESIGN is owned by Yoko Kawabata. I was born and grew up in Fukui city, Japan.

I love traditional Japanese motifs and patterns. I especially adore traditional Japanese family crest design, called KAMON. I use fabrics with those patterns.

Many of my products are my own designs or are modern variations on classic Japanese styles. All my products are hand-made in a smoke-free and pet-free home, using a regular sewing machine.

I studied Drama for 10 years in Canada. I graduated from the University of Lethbridge, double-majored Dramatic Arts and Anthropology. (My curiosity and passion toward traditional Japanese motifs and patterns are coming from my anthropology background)

I graduated from the University of Calgary with my Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Studies in 2005. My research topic was Creativity and Creative Process in Performance Creation. I've performed and lectured in Canada, Japan, Sydney and Sweden.

After finishing my performing tour in Sweden, I worked for the Tokyo International Film Festival and there I met my Australian husband. We've been happily married and lived in Sydney from December 2009 till June 2017. We've been in Melbourne since July 2017.
