A Wonderland of Beautiful Japanese Inspired Jewellery

I have always felt an affinity for Japan. Having travelling there when I was 20, where I lived in a small finishing village for several months I was inspired by the ethos of the people and the beauty of the place. I love the tradition that is so intertwined in the culture that produces such wonderful practices as origami folding and paper production like the Washi papers I use in my designs. I love the colours and patterns of these papers and am always scouring the world over for new papers I can introduce into my product line in some way.
Alice in Japan was born many years later, after a more recent visit to Japan. On this visit I came across some miniature pieces that I fell in love with and instantly my initial product line for Alice in Japan was born. I came home and made a few pieces and started my Etsy store in 2011. Since then I have taught myself how to fold origami (particularly cranes). But folding cranes was not enough for me - I had to take that a step further by folding miniature cranes that I have to fold with tweezers. My process is time consuming as each crane does take a while to fold, but the final product makes it all worth while. I remember the first time I was included on the first page of etsy, and how exciting it was to receive 800 views within 1 hour and a bunch of orders at once! I think I was hooked with selling online from that moment on...

My product line has now expanded from just crane dangle earrings to include anything I can cover with a beautiful paper - wooden stud earrings, pendants both silver and wood, beaded earrings using swarovski crystals, bracelets and anklets made from Japanese fabrics.

I love the idea that something I have created with so much care and love is being sold to different people around the world. And I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
