Have you ever bought a piece of jewelry only to discover with dismay that it was beautiful yet uncomfortable? Or maybe simply not functional? Look no further! I make beautiful, comfortable, functional jewelry - I would know, I test wear each of my pieces for at least one full day of normal, everyday activities. I only post the pieces that pass the test, the others go back to the studio to have their problems worked out.
By A Wire is my handcrafted jewelry business, all of my pieces are made by me and deigned to last. Since I have a background in a more corporate environment I have designed lots of pieces that provide the sophisticated elegance necessary for the corporate world, while still offering a unique look perfect to show off your style.
My shop is in the process of being revamped, I'm focusing on high quality metal clay pieces and retaining some of my favorite chainmaille pieces too (I love chainmaille too much to give it up completely). Check out my SALE section, where I have numerous pieces priced to move - there is nothing wrong with these pieces, it is just time that they find a new home!
Any metal clay piece in my shop can be personalized! You can add initials, dates, messages and more - these pieces are made to order! I've got listings for small personalizations as well as larger ones. They are included in the Personalize section - just select the piece you want and the size personalization you want and specify the details of the customization at checkout!
All of my pieces come with a construction guarantee! If your piece should break due to construction I will repair it (if possible) or replace it for free! If your piece gets damaged due to wear and tear I can typically fix it for a nominal fee - just contact me to discuss. Comfortable, Functional Handmade Jewelry Designed to Last
By A Wire was born on a cold, snowy January morning in my living room. When given the opportunity to escape environmental consulting and follow my creative side, I couldn't resist the temptation. It felt like a crazy risk to hang my future on a bead collection, foil packets of metal clay, and some coils of wire (thus the name By A Wire) but I have loved every minute of it!
Instead of ignoring my consulting days as a thing of the past, I utilize that background in my jewelry designs. I work comfort and functionality into each piece, envisioning what someone might be doing while wearing the piece. My designs are tailored to people who work in the office environment; bracelets that don’t cut into your wrist while sitting at a computer, necklaces that don’t need constant adjustment while you sit through your meeting, earrings that are balanced and comfortable enough to wear all day long.
My business and I continue to grow and evolve together. I never tire of experimenting with new techniques and trying new design. As a matter of fact, I’m probably “working” as you read this, dreaming of a new design I can’t wait to try. Why don’t you head over to my shop and see what’s fresh out of my kiln?

I don't really get what the boss does around here, but it's BORING. Mostly I sleep on the floor by her feet until I convince her its time to play. Then, I get to run, sniff, and swim and pretend that I'm 2 years old, even though I'm really 12.

Obviously I'm the one in charge here. The human stays inside "working" all day. She doesn't even know how to kill a mouse! I hunt and sleep, then sleep and hunt. When it gets cold I con the humans into letting me inside to sit by the fire. I'm KING.

If you are not satisfied with your item or items, you may return them within 7 days of receiving your purchase for a full refund (minus the cost of shipping). Items must be in their original packaging. Customers are responsible for the cost of return shipping. Refunds are issued through PayPal or Direct Checkout only.
If your items fails to be delivered please contact me immediately so that I may track it if possible, replace it, or issue you a refund.
By A Wire strives to make beautiful but sturdy jewelry. Anyone who has worn jewelry knows that it can get caught on clothing or snagged during regular wear. Please pay special attention to delicate pieces, make them the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off to reduce risk of damage. If a repair to your purchased piece is needed please contact me to discuss. By A Wire takes pride in each piece - it is important to know where the weakness in the design is to that I can fix it for future creations. Also don't feel like you only have to contact me for repairs, if it is holding up great or survived your 2-year old's not-so-gentle examination let me know that too!

Shipping
Shipping of custom orders will be discussed at the time the order is placed.
-Within the US, pieces are shipped using the small Priority Mail flat rate box with delivery confirmation ($5.15 within the US). Using the flat rate box also allows for shipping savings in the event more than one item is purchased.
-International shipments, are shipped First Class Package International Service. **International Customers Please Note** Shipments are shipped USPS. All customs duty fees and taxes are the responsibility of the buyer. I do not mark international orders as "gift", or with any value other than the amount you pay. The customer is responsible for all taxes and duty owed. If you are concerned about the taxes and duties, please check with your countries laws about restrictions and thresholds.
US AND INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS - If you would like insurance or expedited shipping please let me know when you place your order, I will be happy to discuss the revised shipping costs with you.
Additional policies and FAQs
My metal clay pieces are shaped and textured by me, then allowed to dry. Once dry the pieces are given the final finishing touches and fired in a kiln for maximum strength. The fired pieces may or may not be treated with an antique patina, but all are tumbled and hand polished with a wax to preserve the color and shine.
One of my favorite things about metal clay (besides that it is made using recycled metal!) is that you can personalize any piece. Have the date of your anniversary inscribed on the back of a piece, use initial pendants to memorialize a lost loved one or celebrate the birth of your children, have a special message written on the back of your favorite piece, if your child is 4-legged and furry we can do pendants for that as well - how about a paw print and name or maybe a nose print? The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

To reduce tarnishing please store your By A Wire piece either in the gift box it arrives in or a recloseable bag when not in use. For added protection you can place a piece of chalk in the bag to further discourage tarnishing. If the piece does tarnish, use a polishing cloth (available at most jewelry stores, online suppliers, and some craft stores) to gently clean your piece.
