About

Calligraphy, the art of beautiful writing ....... and that’s what I offer. Your messaging and signage written beautifully, elegantly and uniquely.

HOW IT ALL STARTED.

I was introduced to calligraphy in my teens. I started practicing with a broad edge carpenters pencil and loved it. But life got in the way and I left it off for a while not realising when the passion returned it would be all consuming and would demand a diligent schedule of practice and creativity

Two years ago I picked up the tools again and here I am, offering this unique gift to others as a service to create beautiful hand written special event stationery.

MY PROCESS

For place cards with one or two names, my process is simple - write out the words using the tool of choice; pointed pen and ink, or brush pen, or paint brush.

For a quote with several words I will do a pencil sketch to get the form and bounce of the letters the way I want it as well as the overall composition look and feel. This can take a few goes before it's the way I want it. Then I use lunch wrap as tracing paper and will vary the cantering and layout a bit more. Then when my lunch wrap piece is looking good I place that on a light pad and will do my final copy over that.

Mirrors I find is the most time consuming. I basically write free hand and when I make a mistake I have to erase and restart.

Chalkboard using actual chalk is a lot less stressful as it can be erased with ease. Chalkboard with white marker does not provide the luxury of erasing. So it's pencil sketches first and careful accurate hand lettering.

Custom and personalised orders

When providing your guest list for calligraphy of place cards, marble coasters and hangers, please make sure of spelling and if all names are included. One opportunity for corrections will be provided before the package is posted off. Any corrections after that will incur a 10.00 rushed fee as well as the item listing price.

Every calligraphy session requires mixing of inks, preparation of materials and the preference is to do an order as a full batch rather than in bits and bobs.
