About

Useful and beautiful handmade homewares and vintage treasures

I am a professionally trained photographer, designer and artist (Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication from the University of Technology Sydney). Photography has been my passion from an early age.

In the late 1990s, while living in England, I won a silver medal from the Royal Photographic Society in London for one of my photographic portraits. That same year another of my portraits was hung in an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Soon after, I studied for an MA in Museum Studies so I could apply my design and photographic skills in the heritage sector. After graduating, I spent many years working in museum archives, documenting amazing and wonderful objects.

During this time I became a mother for the first time and once my daughter started school I was looking for a way to apply my creative skills from home.

So from 2010 I started to create my 'fresh darling' products. I wanted to combine my design skills with fabric, so I bought myself a sewing machine and started experimenting with fabric doorstop designs. My parents placed an order for their French B&B business, and guests started to buy them. This gave me the confidence to approach a shop in Brighton, England, where I was living at the time, and expand my range of products to include fabric bulletin boards. They sold successfully to the local marketplace.

After three years living close to the harbour in Sydney, I now live in the Blue Mountains (90 mins from Sydney) where I regularly browse shops and markets for vintage collectables, books and fabrics. I love putting the designs together and matching and combining prints and colours. I have set up my garden studio and this is where I like to design, think and create, sometimes with loud music playing on the stereo and at other times with the Australian native birds singing and squawking loudly in my garden. I recently adopted a small dog called Possum who is my constant companion.

For many years I've collected old books, postcards, stamps, maps and other ephemera, old bottles, cameras and photographs. I love quirky and vintage objects with a story to tell. My travels in Australia, France, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England inspire me with their history and landscapes, museums and galleries.

In my Etsy shop I only sell objects that appeal to me and that I would love to have in my home.
