Beautiful cup - my niece will love it. Thanks so much
Handmade vessels. Unique, individual and innately practical.
I believe that every hand made item, whether you wear, use, display or gift proudly declares, 'My maker has invested time, talent and hope to ensure that I exist! I am unique. I am beautiful. I am individual.'
As a child, my parents were passionate about community and loved inviting family, friends and guests to share a meal. Stories were exchanged, dreams were uncovered and losses mourned; laughter and tears, discussions and debates all occurred around that octagonal kitchen table. We shared around that table. We shared life. The simple act of eating transformed into powerful sign of inclusion, love and care.
Here at Servant Ceramics, a boutique ceramics studio, I love making vessels that you can use or give as gifts to the significant people in your life – a mug for Mum's morning coffee, a dinner plate for your Dad’s steak and two vege, a matching teacup and saucer set for you and your best friend so that when you Skype you can drink tea together - vessels to enrich and enhance the drinking and dining experience.
I hand make each ceramic vessel to make sure that you or your loved ones don’t eat or drink alone, because after all, you are using an item made intentionally for your use and enjoyment.
As part of my practice, I strive to make sustainable business choices - recycling my clay scraps, buying stock from local suppliers and choosing to use re-purposed and recyclable supplies for my studio and office. I adore working with clay and appreciate the tactile materiality and physicality of the finished pieces.
Located in Brisbane, QLD you can find Servant Ceramics in person at the 'Handmade Redcliffe' markets as well as 'BrisStyle' Markets through out the year. Some of my work is currently stocked in the Collective Store (Wynnum).
Owner, Maker, Designer
A trained ceramic artist, having completed a diploma of ceramics and a bachelor of arts in Melbourne, Victoria, I have been working with clay for over 7 years and hand make each and every Servant Ceramics' vessel.
All work is specifically listed as ready-made or made to order. Made to order pieces require four to six weeks for order completion. Occasionally, due to factors out of my control, pieces may need to be remade and I will require extra time to complete the order. I will always be open and honest if this occurs and contact you immediately. As a small ceramic studio, I need to build up a number of pieces to fire the kiln effectively and this accounts for the four to six week timeframe.
Servant Ceramics' vessels are fired to Cone 8-10 in electric and gas kilns which means they are vitrified and perfect for everyday use. My glazes are lead-free for your peace of mind. My vessels are food and dishwasher safe, but I highly recommend hand washing to extend the life of the vessels (if you are going to put them in the dishwasher, ideally use a delicate cycle without drying heat). Despite the glass-like glazed surface, the heat and power of dishwashers can affect all glazed surfaces over time. I don’t openly recommend using my vessels in microwave ovens, as I cannot guarantee against what the extended exposure from the microwaves might do in the long term. At home, Andrew and I used our bowls, plates and cups daily and avoid any staining type food or liquids on the unglazed clay or light coloured satin surfaces
My photographs represent the purchasable piece. It is not usually the exact image of the piece you will receive, as each piece is handmade and unique, despite having similarities in dimension, glaze and decoration. Please note that any props, food or the like are not included with the vessel/s. Unless listed as a set/pair, vessels are sold individually.
Before purchasing, please be sure to check out my Shop Policies page for general information regarding ordering, shipping and the like.
Accepted payment methods
Please note that you do NOT need to have a PayPal account to pay with PayPal. This Etsy help article may assist you - http://www.etsy.com/help/article/361
I am open to alternative payment and delivery arrangements for local Brisbane customers but please contact me to confirm this before purchasing.
For peace of mind, I prefer to ship domestic orders via courier with package tracking and the shipping prices reflect this. While this is slightly more expensive than regular Australia Post, I personally know of the frustration of purchasing online and having orders disappear in transit. Please do contact me before purchasing if you wish to vary the postage (change to regular/express) - I'm happy to meet your needs.
Packages will be sent to the address listed on the Etsy order, so please be sure your shipping information is current.
I pack and post all purchases once a week. As a small studio, this is the most effective practice for me, both cost and time wise. Please contact me if you are desperate or have a tight timeline but do be aware that immediate postage may incur an additional charge.
Buying as a gift?
How special! I am more than happy to include a note and wrap the piece extra pretty. Please triple check to make sure the shipping address is correct (especially if headed straight to the giftee).
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE READ!
Please contact me if you are an international customer. I calculate the postage for each country as international shipping costs have increased. Any prices listed for international are an estimate. The buyer must pay for customs, VAT, and any other destination country expenses.
Refunds and Exchanges
a) there is a major problem with the vessel that would have stopped you from buying it, had you known about it at time of purchase
b) it is unsafe
c) is significantly different from the sample or description
d) it doesn’t do what we said it would do, or what you asked it to do and can’t be fixed.
If a Servant Ceramics' item is damaged in transit, please contact me immediately with photo/s of the broken item and packaging. I do my best to package the goods to ensure their survival in the tough postal environment. In the rare event of breakage, I will do my best to work with you to replace the order as quickly as possible.
