This is a portrait of One World Trade Center. The image was captured by me, in New York City, in Lower Manhattan in April 2015.

If every skyscraper constructed started as someone's dream; One World Trace Center started as someone's revenge! It's a punch in the eye to the events that led to its construction.

The Freedom Center (as it is also called) was constructed as a result of two hijacked airliners that flew into the former, original, World Trade Center towers 1 and 2 that stood in this location from 1968 to 2001. The towers were brought to the ground as a result of the impact. The event has been recognized as “The 9/11 Terrorist Attacks” because of the date on which it occurred—September 11, 2001.

I was working in Washington DC the day four of our commercial airliners loaded with innocent passengers went down in Pennsylvania, hit the Pentagon (which I drove past every day in/out of DC) and the twin towers in NYC. I was lucky to be able to get out of the city, late in the day. What made me nervous was I didn't see any planes flying over the District of Columbia, “Who's protecting the city?” I told my coworkers at 17th/M Streets, NW.

In 2015, I took my family to visit the memorial at the base of 1WTC, where I captured this panoramic image of it. I've named it “ONE-WTC The Invisible” because the clouds blend into it so seamlessly. Like a crystal in the sky, One World Trade Center is a symbol of resilience and hope for the people of New York City. It is a reminder of the city's ability to overcome tragedy and rebuild.
