My intent as a sculptor, is to use the lost art of wax portraiture, popular in the 18th and early 19th century to create new portraits of people in history or that are of interest to myself and others involved in history.

Because of changing tastes and technology, this art form fell out of fashion in the 1840's. Using several period sources as reference, I sculpt new portraits of historically interesting figures in very low bas-relief. The wax I use is not an ordinary wax. It is a hard wax that I mix myself.

The portraits are applied to a reverse painted piece of glass as were many in the 18th and early 19th century. The colors I use on the backing glass are those seen on original pieces; black, Prussian blue, green and Spanish brown.

My backing paper design is derived from one used by a late 18th century artist, Mrs. Hudson of Pall Mall, London. It is applied with a water base glue.

I do my own framing, using mostly commercially made frames, selected carefully for as close to an appropriate period look as possible. My work is signed on the bottom with my name and date.
