Blue Willow Teacup and Saucer - Vintage Transferware - Churchill England

A beautiful Churchill Blue Willow teacup and saucer set originating in England in the late 18th century. It features a distinctive blue and white transferware pattern depicting a romantic Chinese legend. The pattern traditionally includes elements like a pagoda, bridge with three figures, a boat, willow trees, and two flying birds.

While inspired by Chinese aesthetics (Chinoiserie), the Blue Willow pattern was created in England around 1780, with Thomas Turner and Thomas Minton being instrumental in its development. Churchill China, whose origins date back to 1795, is a prominent manufacturer of this pattern today.

Cultural Significance: The design tells a legendary story of star-crossed lovers, Koong-se and Chang, whose forbidden romance culminates in their transformation into doves. The Willow pattern is a distinctive and elaborate Chinoiserie pattern used on ceramic kitchen and housewares. The condition is great - no chips, cracks or crazing.

99% of the time I use USPS Priority Mail to ship your item as quickly as possible. This service includes tracking and insurance.
