Once upon a time, there was a darling little girl named Lucia. She lived in a teeny tiny house on the outskirts of a really, really big city with her momma, daddy, and big brother. More than anything she wanted to be a princess, so she proclaimed herself the princess of the household. Everywhere she would go, she’d declare, “I am a princess.” And the common people would ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ at how adorable this young little being was.
Then, one day, her momma started planning her birthday. Lucia asked, “can I have a princess party?” Her mother, being the mother that she was, could only oblige. “Why, of course, my little princess.” But, Lucia’s mother had made a New Years Resolution to only buy or make handmade, recycled, or reused. Whatever would she do? Well, she decided to have a ‘handmade princess party,’ and thus got started right away sewing and knitting bunting and other decorations galore.
Her mother became so inspired by the thought of creating with such limited resources (though not really limited once she thought about it) that she decided she had to open her own little handmade princess store. In it, she’d have princess-approved wares, accessories, and decorations; all kinds of princess goodies. Mostly knit, some sewn, and the occasional painted. Alas, A HANDMADE PRINCESS, a little etsy store, was brought into existence. But that was not the end.
This mama loved making handmade stuff oh so much that she started to branch out. Perhaps, she thought, she could make things for everyone. And so she did. And then when she became obsessed with knitting, it overtook her little princess store. There was no going back. She would always love her little A HANDMADE PRINCESS store. But things change, people change, and that is okay. It is still the perfect little home to showcase her handmade creations (mostly knit nowadays), for the princess in us all. But there are many types of princesses; fairy princesses and earth mother princesses and the hip mama princesses.
Gilda, Lucia's momma, decided A HANDMADE PRINCESS would always be a little hip, funky, & girly. Always.
