Ik ben de maker van The Grotesque Gallery, een onafhankelijke kunstenaar gespecialiseerd in naaldvilten met een donkere fantasie, macabere decoraties en surrealistische rariteiten. Mijn werk overbrugt de ongemakkelijke kloof tussen de zachte, geruststellende textuur van wol en de huiveringwekkende diepten van de menselijke verbeelding. Ik put diepgaande inspiratie uit kosmische Lovecraftiaanse nachtmerries, traditionele Aziatische folklore (van de huiveringwekkende Japanse Yurei tot de mythologische goden van de onderwereld in China), religieuze horror en biomechanisch surrealisme.

Er schuilt een bizarre, betoverende schoonheid in het nemen van ruwe, pluizige wol – een materiaal dat doorgaans geassocieerd wordt met schattige, onschuldige knutselwerkjes – en het manipuleren ervan tot gruwelijke lichaamsgruwel, gestikte amalgaamwerken en huilende fantomen. Ik streef ernaar om 'griezelig-schattige' en oprecht angstaanjagende sculpturen te creëren die de grenzen van traditionele textielkunst verleggen. Mijn galerie is een strikte selectie van het groteske; je zult hier geen alledaagse of typische bosdieren vinden, alleen het buitengewone en het huiveringwekkende.
Elk monster, spook en anomalie in mijn winkel is 100% handgemaakt met behulp van de nauwgezette techniek van naaldvilten.
Het proces begint met een visioen van een nachtmerrie. Met een speciale naald met weerhaken prik en pers ik duizenden keren in ruwe, ongesponnen wolvezels totdat ze samensmelten tot een dichte, solide vorm. Er komen geen mallen, 3D-prints of massaproductie aan te pas. Elke tand, elke kronkelende tentakel en elke holle oogkas wordt volledig met de hand gevormd. Af en toe verwerk ik gemengde materialen – zoals glazen ogen, rustiek draad of vintage kant – om het macabere realisme van het werk te versterken.
Door dit intensieve, urenlange beeldhouwproces is elke kunstpop die mijn atelier verlaat een volstrekt uniek exemplaar met een eigen duistere persoonlijkheid. I strive to create "creepy-cute" and genuinely terrifying sculptures that challenge the boundaries of traditional fiber art. My gallery is a strict curation of the grotesque; you will find no mundane or typical woodland creatures here, only the extraordinary and the eerie.

The process begins with a vision of a nightmare. Using a specialized barbed needle, I repeatedly stab and compress raw, unspun wool fibers thousands of times until they lock together into a dense, solid form. There are no molds, no 3D prints, and no mass manufacturing involved. Every tooth, every writhing tentacle, and every hollow eye socket is shaped entirely by hand. I occasionally incorporate mixed media—such as glass eyes, rustic wire, or vintage lace—to enhance the macabre realism of the piece.
Because of this intensive, hours-long sculpting process, every single art doll that leaves my studio is a completely unique, one-of-a-kind entity with its own dark personality.
