Luis Cordero is een grafisch kunstenaar geboren in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico en momenteel woonachtig in Yonkers, NY. Hij is door de jaren heen zeer actief geweest in de Puerto Ricaanse gemeenschap.
Hij en verschillende andere kunstenaars richtten het Puerto Ricaanse Instituut voor de Ontwikkeling van de Kunsten, P.R.I.D.A. op, dat zich heeft onderscheiden als een van de weinige organisaties die opkomen voor de rechten van de Puerto Ricaanse kunstenaars.
Sinds 2006 is hij lid van de raad van bestuur van Comite Noviembre en heeft hij de National Puerto Rican Artisan Fair van Comite Noviembre geproduceerd en gecoördineerd, de grootste Puerto Ricaanse ambachtelijke beurs buiten Puerto Rico en de grootste in de VS.
Mijn inspiratie...
Ik word geïnspireerd om te creëren door de rijkdom van mijn cultuur. We kunnen putten uit onze Afrikaanse roots om dansen en ritmes te creëren die mensen uit hun stoel kunnen halen en naar een andere wereld kunnen brengen. We kunnen putten uit onze Spaans/Europese roots om literatuur te creëren om de wereld te inspireren. We kunnen putten uit onze inheemse wortels om afbeeldingen te maken die nog nooit eerder waren gezien. Het verbaast me als ik denk aan wat een klein eiland Puerto Rico is, met nog zo weinig mensen hebben onze kunstenaars kunst gemaakt die zij aan zij kan staan met de beste ter wereld!

Luis Cordero is a graphic artist born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and currently residing in Yonkers, NY. He has been very active in the Puerto Rican community over the years.
He and several other artists founded the Puerto Rican Institute for the Development of the Arts, P.R.I.D.A. which has distinguished itself as one of the few organizations advocating for the rights of the Puerto Rican artists.
Since 2006 he has been on the Board of Directors of Comite Noviembre and has produced and coordinated Comite Noviembre's National Puerto Rican Artisan Fair, the largest Puerto Rican artisan fair outside of Puerto Rico and the largest in the US.
My inspiration...
I am inspired to create by the richness of my culture. We can draw on our African roots to create dances and rhythms that can move people out of their seats and into another world. We can draw on our Spanish/European roots to create literature to inspire the world. We can draw on our Native roots to create graphics that had never been seen before. It amazes me when I think of what a small island Puerto Rico is, with so few people yet our artists have created art that can stand side by side with the best in the world!
