Chemistry in the wee hours
Empecé a fijarme en los ingredientes de mi jabón cuando tuve una crisis de salud hace un par de años y quería volver a lo básico en todos los sentidos. Nunca antes me había fijado en los ingredientes de mi jabón. Cuando empecé a explorar alternativas naturales, me di cuenta de que me apasionaba no solo el jabón, sino también los aceites esenciales. También he estado experimentando con formas naturales de dar color al jabón. Mis jabones tienen una paleta de colores bastante baja (como diría mi madre). Están hechos con ingredientes naturales, a menudo orgánicos, y huelen de maravilla.
Como hago la mayor parte de mi jabón antes de que la casa se despierte, lo considero mi actividad de madrugada. Empecé usando recetas del libro de Kelly Cable, "Natural Soapmaking Book for Beginners", y en línea. Poco a poco, fui haciendo mis propios ajustes. Mi primer amor es un jabón de aceite de oliva sencillo con muy poca fragancia. Es un producto nutritivo y suave para la piel. Luego, mi familia empezó a pedir fragancias; algunas ni siquiera sabía que existían. Mi inventario comenzó a desbordar mi espacio y decidí abrir esta tienda.
Quería usar mi tienda para vender crochet también, ya que me da tranquilidad. Me gano la vida enseñando, y poder sentarme tranquilamente y tejer punto a punto es una bendición. Este otoño descubrí las calabazas, así que son el primer artículo de crochet que ofrezco.
I started looking at the ingredients in my soap when I had a health crisis a couple of years ago, and I wanted to get back to basics in all ways. I had never paid attention to the ingredients in my soap before. When I started exploring natural alternatives, I realized I had a passion for not only soap, but essential oils. I've also been experimenting with natural ways to color soap. My soaps have a fairly low chroma (as my mother would have said) color palate. They are made of natural ingredients, often organic, and smell wonderful.
Since I do most of my soap making before the house wakes up, I think of it as my "wee hours" activity. I started by using recipes from Kelly Cable's book, "Natural Soapmaking Book for Beginners," and on line. Slowly I began to make my own adjustments. My first love is a simple olive oil soap with very little fragrance. It is a nourishing kindness to the skin. Then family started requesting fragrances; some I didn't even know existed. My inventory began overflowing my space, and I decided to open this shop.
I wanted to use my shop to sell crochet as well, since it is a source of calm for me. I teach for a living, and being able to sit quietly and build something stitch by stitch is a blessing. This fall I discovered pumpkins, and so they are the first crochet item I am offering.
