Perché ho creato una collezione così ampia e variegata di autografi rari e difficili da reperire?
Cominciamo dall'inizio. Sono arrivato su Etsy dopo aver avuto successo su altre piattaforme di vendita, per portare la mia collezione a un mercato completamente nuovo. Come molti altri, ero un fanatico della musica fin da bambino. Sono cresciuto ascoltando AC/DC, Metallica, Guns N' Roses e il rock degli anni '70 e '80. Poi, nel 1983, ho assistito al mio primo concerto, quello di Billy Idol, e da allora sono rimasto affascinato dalla musica dal vivo, avendo visto centinaia di concerti nella mia vita. La musica per me è stata ciò che è stata per molti: una fuga dalla realtà, uno sfogo per l'angoscia adolescenziale e per le feste! Era davvero un modo per esprimere i propri sentimenti, una voce quando non se ne aveva una, e la conferma che qualcun altro capiva come ci si sentiva.
Come molti altri, sono diventato prima collezionista e poi venditore. Le mie pareti sono piene di artisti musicali e film con cui sono cresciuto e che rappresentano una parte importante della mia infanzia. Agli inizi, stavo costruendo una collezione che mi faceva pensare alle cose che hanno contribuito a formare la persona che sono diventato da adulto.
Mi sono appassionato così tanto a questo settore che mi è sembrato naturale iniziare a procurarmi altri oggetti rari e di grande valore da condividere con altri collezionisti. Ho studiato a fondo l'autenticazione delle firme con un esperto accreditato in Florida, dedicandovi migliaia di ore negli ultimi 15 anni. Ho stretto rapporti di amicizia con altri importanti collezionisti Disney, attivi nel settore da decenni, e con un altro collezionista di seconda generazione, con oltre 40 anni di esperienza e migliaia di oggetti risalenti al XIX secolo. Questo mi ha permesso di costruire una vasta collezione di oltre 2000 firme, che spaziano da musica, film e serie TV, storia, scienza, religione, commedia, sport, autori, inventori, icone culturali, criminalità organizzata e molti altri generi degli ultimi 150 anni.
Credo che le firme siano molto più di semplici nomi su carta: evocano emozioni. Riportano alla mente ricordi del nostro passato, cose che ci commuovono ancora oggi, un pezzo di storia e persone che l'hanno cambiata!
Why did I build such a large, diverse collection of rare and hard to get signatures?
Lets start at the beginning. I came to Etsy after successful runs on other selling platforms to bring my collection to a whole new market. As many others were, I was a music fanatic when I was a kid. Growing up on AC DC, Metallica, Guns and Roses, & 70s and 80's rock. Then I saw my first concert in 1983, Billy Idol, and I was hooked on live music ever since and have seen hundreds of concerts in my life. Music for me what is was for many, an escape from reality and an outlet for teenage angst, and parties! It was really an expression of how you felt and a voice when you didn't have one, and confirmation that someone else understood how you feel..
As many I became a collector before I became a seller. My walls are filled with the music artists and movies I grew up with and a important part of my childhood. In my early days I was building a collection that made me think of the things that helped form the person I became as an adult.
I ended up getting so passionate and deep into this business it only made sense to start obtaining other great and rare items to share with other collectors. I have studied signature authentication extensively with a registered authenticator in Florida and spent 1000's of hours doing so over the last 15 years. I have developed close relationships with other major collectors from Disney that have been deep in the business for decades, and another who is a 40+ year second generation collector with thousands of items going back to the 1800's. This allowed me to build a large collection of 2000+ signatures ranging from music, movies and TV, historical, science, religion, comedy, sports, authors, inventors, cultural Icons, organized crime, and many other genres from the last 150+ years..
I feel signatures are more than just names on paper, they invoke feelings. They bring back memories from our past and things that move us today, and a part of history, and people that changed history!
