When I was suffering from a depression, it became clear that I couldn't go on like this. There were also a lot of taboos about mental health I had to face. Even at my work, in a psychiatric hospital, they called me weak. That was hard even, because I thought they would certainly understand it there.

So I started drawing: I wanted to put my feelings on paper. Maybe I could then break the taboos in may own way. If only one person would feel touched or less alone because of my drawings, I would have succeeded! Through a common friend I came in touch with intuitive drawing and I felt for myself how healing this method can be.

In an intuitive drawing you start from your gut, so not from a pre-determend image in your head. A lot of my drawings are therefor really snapshots of how I was feeling that day, like a diary. That's why my art is designed tot make you feel. I love getting my hands dirty (litterly), so I use lots of soft pastels en love to smoothe te pigment al over te paper with my hands. This creates even more feelings to be displayed in my work.

Next to being an artist, I'm also a creative therapist. So I use this technique to teach to my clients. Each one of them learns hands on how beneficial this technique is for your mental health. They also notice how much fun it is to just do, instead of overthinking everything.
