Onze kunstwerken en goederen zijn geïnspireerd door prachtige taal die de tand des tijds heeft doorstaan, geestige inzichten die een snaar raken, poëzie die de verbeelding oprekt en filosofie die ons aanzet tot diep nadenken. We zijn vooral geïnteresseerd in de ideeën die ons verbinden in plaats van verdelen, de nuances van de menselijke ervaring en de tijdloze wijsheid die ons inspireert om beter te denken, beter te doen en beter te zijn. Onze groeiende collectie omvat meer dan 150 kunstdrukken, notitieboekjes, boeken en geschenken die esthetische vreugde brengen in alledaagse voorwerpen en visionairs uit het verleden verbinden met moderne mensen.

Onze studio is opgericht in 2011 en wij streven naar esthetiek, kwaliteit en vakmanschap:

- Al onze goederen worden in de VS gemaakt
- Ons printpapier wordt duurzaam gemalen in de staat New York
- Onze notitieboekjes zijn handgemaakt in Portland, Oregon en gemaakt van gerecyclede boeken
- Alle kunst is origineel en is het enige werk van Obvious State medeoprichter, Evan Robertson

OVER DE KUNSTENAAR
Evan Robertson werd geboren in New York City en groeide op in Montclair, NJ. Hij behaalde een B.A. in Theater aan Yale in 1996 en studeerde af aan The Juilliard Drama Fine Art Program (Group 29) in 2000. Hij bracht vele jaren door in New York City als multidisciplinair kunstenaar en acteur, optredend in The Public Theater, The Aquila en The Pearl Theatre, waar hij de Joe A. Calloway award won voor zijn optreden als Claudio in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

In 2011 stond zijn illustratiewerk centraal toen hij fragmenten van onderstreepte passages uit zijn favoriete boeken gebruikte als inspiratie voor visuele interpretaties. Zijn gedurfde, grafische werk, gecombineerd met provocerende tekst, trok al snel de aandacht van de pers, waaronder de Los Angeles Times die het omschreef als "geestig en elegant."

Wat begon als een leuk persoonlijk project groeide snel uit tot een bloeiende internationale kunstonderneming met meer dan 75.000 verkochte stukken in meer dan 50 landen. Zijn werk is tentoongesteld in het Metropolitan Museum of Art en in kleinere galerieën, boetieks en winkels over de hele wereld. Naast zijn eigen werk omvat zijn werk voor klanten originele kunstwerken voor Disney, Penguin Random House, Double Day, The University of Manchester, Gibbs Smith, Andrews McMeel, True West London, Juniper Books, Bear Ceuse, Amala Beauty en meer.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Evan Robertson was born in New York City and grew up in Montclair, NJ. He received a B.A. in Theater from Yale in 1996 and graduated from The Juilliard Drama Fine Art Program (Group 29) in 2000. In 2011, his illustration work took center stage when he used snippets of underlined passages from his favorite books as inspiration for visual interpretations. His bold, graphic work paired with provocative text quickly garnered the attention of the press, including the Los Angeles Times who dubbed it “witty and elegant.”

What began as a fun personal project quickly grew into a flourishing international art business with over 75,000 pieces sold in over 50 countries. His work has been displayed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as smaller galleries, boutiques and shop across the world. In addition to his own work, his client work includes original artwork for Disney, Penguin Random House, Double Day, The University of Manchester, Gibbs Smith, Andrews McMeel, True West London, Juniper Books, Bear Ceuse, Amala Beauty and more.
