Practical SEND | Inclusive resources created from real SEND experience, compassion and a belief that every child deserves access to learning
Practical SEND was created from years of real-life experience working directly with children, families and educators within Early Years and SEND provision. After working as a Preschool Room Leader, SENCo, safeguarding lead and step-up deputy, I saw first-hand how many children were struggling to access learning - not because they were “unable”, but because the right support, understanding and adjustments were often missing.
I also saw how overwhelmed parents and practitioners can become trying to navigate SEND systems, behaviour support, EHCP evidence, regulation needs and day-to-day challenges while still wanting the very best for the child in front of them.
That is why I created Practical SEND.
This isn’t just a business to me. It comes from genuine passion, lived professional experience and a strong belief that inclusion should never depend on diagnosis, funding or luck. Every child deserves to feel safe, understood, regulated and able to succeed in environments that work with them, not against them.
Alongside working full time within Early Years, I am completing Level 7 Master’s level study in Educational Leadership with a focus on SEND, inclusion, regulation and learning access. Through this journey, I developed the Learning Access Approach - a neuro-informed, inclusive framework built around the belief that regulation, connection and access must come before expectations and outcomes.
The Learning Access Approach focuses on:
• Relate – building safe relationships and connection
• Regulate – supporting co-regulation and emotional safety
• Access – removing barriers to learning
• Learn – creating meaningful engagement
• Thrive – building confidence, independence and long-term success
The approach was developed from both professional experience and seeing gaps within current SEND support systems. Too often, children are expected to fit environments that are not meeting their needs. The Learning Access Approach aims to shift that thinking by helping adults understand that when sensory needs, emotional regulation and accessibility are supported properly, learning becomes possible.
Many of the resources inside Practical SEND are inspired by real children, real families and real situations I have supported over the years. From visual supports and regulation tools to SEND guidance, observations and practical strategies, everything is designed to reduce overwhelm and make support feel achievable.
The values behind Practical SEND are:
• Inclusion without barriers
• Regulation before expectation
• Compassion-led support
• Accessible learning for all
• Empowering parents and practitioners
• Evidence-informed practice with real-life application
• Seeing behaviour as communication
• Helping children build confidence, independence and belonging
A huge part of Practical SEND is about giving back and helping others. I know how difficult and isolating SEND journeys can feel for families, especially while waiting for support or assessments. My long-term goal is to continue creating affordable, accessible resources and support that genuinely make a difference to everyday lives - not just professionally, but emotionally too.
Practical SEND and the Learning Access Approach are built on the belief that small changes, understanding adults and the right support can completely change a child’s future.
Thank you for supporting a small UK-based SEND business built from heart, experience and a genuine commitment to helping children and families thrive.
