Ik was op de Amazing Las Vegas Comic-Con in 2014, en een vriendelijke dame gaf commentaar op het handgemaakte Pikachu (van Pokemon) kostuum van mijn 1-jarige dochter met verschillende gehaakte elementen, vanwege het feit dat ik geen stof meer had.

Ze zei: "Ah, haken! De originele 3D-printer!"

Ik realiseerde me dat het echt zo is! In feite begon ik te haken omdat de dingen die ik wilde (meestal schattige baby-items) gewoon niet bestonden. Nu vind ik het heerlijk om de uitdaging van een nieuw patroon aan te gaan of er een helemaal opnieuw te maken.

De naam van de winkel, Craftzilla, is omdat mijn eerste volledig originele haakproject zonder patronen of begeleiding, een godzilla geïnspireerde amigurumi (gehaakte pop) was, aangevraagd door mijn Japanse monsterfanaat echtgenoot. Hij vroeg specifiek dat het "zijn mond kon openen en dingen kon eten". Het was de eerste keer dat ik me echt met de mechanica (en wiskunde... wist je dat er wiskunde bij komt kijken?? Ugh!) van haakwerk. Na een paar mutantenpogingen herrees het monster uit de as (alleen om een "Oh cool, you actually made it." van echtgenoot te krijgen...). Maar hé, het was super schattig, en het was magisch om iets dat alleen in mijn hersenen had bestaan echt te zien worden!

Dus nu deel ik mijn monsterlijke obsessie met knutselen met je! Ik hou ervan om dingen nieuw te maken en heb fantasierijke elementen. (Ik ben als de man van Cake Boss die over belooft "Robot thema cake?? Tja, wat dacht je van een bewegende robot thema taart?!" Ik word hier enthousiast van.)

She said, "Ah, crochet! The original 3D printer!"

I realized that it really is! In fact, I started crocheting just because the things I wanted (mostly cute baby items) were simply non existent. Now I love taking on the challenge of a new pattern or creating one from scratch.

The shop's name, Craftzilla, is because my first completely original crochet project with no patterns or guidance, was a Godzilla inspired amigurumi (crochet doll) requested by my Japanese monster-fanatic husband. He specifically asked that it could "open it's mouth and eat things". It was the first time I really got into the mechanics (and math...did you know there is math involved?? Ugh!) of crochet work. After a couple of mutant attempts, the monster arose from the ashes (only to get a "Oh cool, you actually made it." from husband...). But hey, it was super cute, and it was magical to see something that had only existed in my brain become real!

So now I'm sharing my monstrous obsession with crafting with you! I love to make things new and have imaginative elements to them. (I'm like the guy from Cake Boss who over promises "Robot themed cake?? Well, how about a moving robot themed cake?!" I get excited about this.)
