Kind to animals - Kind to environment
For a long time, I have had a deep desire to start a sustainable business that is kind to the environment. At the same time, I wished to support Mongolia's nomadic people - one of the world's last remaining nomadic cultures.
After living abroad for some time, my plan was solidified when I visited Mongolia where I found that my hometown was taken over by a mining boom. While this has created a significant economic growth, it has also negatively impacted the environment. The rapidly growing mining industry is a threat to the traditional Mongolian way of life and contributes to the degradation of the landscape.
Having always been amazed by the enduring ability of Mongolian livestock to withstand the country's extreme weather conditions (scorching summer heat and frigid winter temperatures) and high altitudes, I was inspired to create products from their wool and cashmere. The animals have long, warm, down coats that contain fibres with outstanding thermal regulatory abilities and these properties transfer to textiles. This became the inspiration behind Hand Combed. The result is the finest, softest possible rare wool and cashmere that feels as if you're wearing clouds.
Hand Combed has now become what I had originally envisioned: a sustainable business that will support Mongolia's nomadic people and culture without damaging the environment. We are privileged to offer the finest cashmere and wool products made from Mongolian livestock.
