For Anu Menon and Suyog Mody, their beloved morning ritual of brewing coffee together at home before their nine-to-fives started was their favorite way to slow down and connect. But after growing tired of not being able to find the right coffee beans (aka ones that had been roasted in the last few weeks for maximum flavor and freshness), they decided to take matters into their own hands. Both feeling unfulfilled at work with a strong desire to create something themselves, Dritaway Coffee was born, and the rest, they say, is history. "We wanted to do work that would have an impact, and create something that we could be proud of," the couple shared. That impact is Driftaway's unwavering dedication to inclusivity and quality. Why Driftaway Coffee should be on your radar: Aside from creating high-quality coffee, Anu and Suyog want to intentionally grow their company and use their platform to shine a light on the people that make every cup possible. "We want to keep telling the stories of the people behind the coffees, create awareness of the inequities and issues in the coffee value chain, and do our part to fix them," they said. "There are some big gaps between what consumers care about, what roasters and people in consuming countries talk about, and what producers in origin countries talk about—and we want to help bridge them. We need to keep advocating for our farm partners and for the future of coffee."

In their own words: "For far too long, specialty coffee has had a reputation of being intimidating and alienating, and this is reflected in the stark, minimalistic, and muted branding. But this isn't Driftaway or how we feel about coffee! Though we take sourcing and roasting coffee seriously, we strongly believe you should drink the coffee you love, without any rules (add milk! add sugar! you do you!). We're colorful and maximalist [and don't think] coffee should be so serious!"
