This book is not just a cookbook. Francine Payer shares traditional knowledge from original peoples. In addition to Anishinabek traditions, you will find in this book family recipes that she has adapted to the taste of the day to make delicious recipes good for health and many references intended for the reader who would like to go further in her approach. This book therefore makes us aware of where our meal comes from and encourages us to enter into a respectful and conscious relationship with what we eat and with our Mother Earth without whom we would not know Life.

Anishinabe means authentic human being in harmony with nature; human being who looks after the well-being of our Mother Earth and all our relationships (grandmother Moon, Water, grandfather Sun, Wind, Trees, Animals, the world of Stones etc.) and even
our relationship with our neighbours. Francine Payer is a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As an Anishinabe woman, she is also a Community Grandmother, Medicine Woman and Water Walker. This certified naturopath, herbalist and iridologist holds a certificate in holistic nutrition, crystallotherapy and another in aromatherapy. Kokum loves to cook with what she grows or harvests in nature: herbs that many people call weeds, but that she calls medicines that she uses to take care of herself, her family and her clients.

Although she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the 90s, she never took any medication. Water and the forest are its
pharmacy. Moreover, gardening is one of her greatest passions, especially since she has been a Seed Keeper for more than 30 years.
