Autism: Reconsidering human nature

Autism is officially considered a neurodevelopmental disorder and sometimes still by some, as a disease. More and more autistic people are speaking out to explain autism from the inside. Their soft, quiet voice carries a powerful message:

autism is a natural neurological discrepancy. Autistic people are equal and complete human beings, and autistic activists refute any attempt at healing or normalization.

This book invites you to change the vision of the mental disorder of autism and to reconsider it through the prism of neurodiversity. The brain is comparable to an ecosystem: a network of grandiose complexity, immeasurable from which emerges a flourishing diversity essential for humanity.

The uniqueness of the autistic brain generates several characteristics, sometimes disturbing and disturbing for a person unfamiliar with autism. Based on recent scientific research, all with a personal touch, Mélanie Ouimet seeks to elucidate these aspects of autism.

This book recasts all the accepted ideas and beliefs about autism. It shows that autistic people are complex, curious, intelligent and very sensitive despite appearances of confinement.

About the author

MELANIA OUIMET is diagnosed as a "moderate autistic with high level of intellectual functioning". A mother of four children, she founded the company Neurodiversity, an information broadcaster and the neurodiversity movement: autism and other forms of intelligence and the first neurodiversity salon in Quebec. Through this book, she wants to raise awareness and normalize neurological differences and autism. Autistic people are above all human beings who possess a different intelligence.
