I go by the name Simone, and I have been drawing and painting since my chubby little fingers could grab a crayon and a brush!
I went to college and left with a BFA, then spent a few years working freelance as an artist assistant, mural painter, faux finisher, story board artist, illustrator, set builder and painter for off-Broadway theater in NY. All throughout my varied work adventures, I continued to study art, specifically traditional portraiture in oils at the School of Visual Art in Manhattan. Then, love brought me to LA from NY and since my world was already turned upside down, I decided to jump in and work for myself painting portraits! I married a wonderful man who is a writer and totally understands my need to paint, paint, paint!
I love to paint and I need to do art daily - it is not a choice for me. I am interested in all sorts of subject matters, but what I love most about painting portraits is that they are so meaningful to my customers. It makes the whole process that much more special.
I love the immediacy and subtlety of watercolor. It is not the only medium I work in, but it is what I paint with daily, whether a portrait or a quick sketch from my daily life.
Portrait Process
Portraits start with photos sent to me through etsy or email, and a conversation about how the client and I envision the finished product. I then do an initial sketch and send it back for approval before I start painting. I typically update each customer with anywhere from 1-5+ process photos as I go along, then send a final .jpg for approval before putting the portrait in the mail. This process is the best way to ensure that the final product is just perfect.
Because of the custom nature of the portraits, their completion time can vary, especially if I am working on several at once. The best way to get the portrait you want in time for when you need it is to check in with me about my current turnaround time, and let me know your personal deadline.
