This offering is for 5.5YDS x 49 inches wide of this fantastic unused original old stock never washed heavy upholstery canvas...just stored for decades and decades...this auction is for ALL of what is left...which is likely the last of this precious stuff on earth...This fabric was inspired and created in 1951...it is named "Semaphore"...which really means signal flags...used mostly in maritime industry...this fabric is a play on all those wonderful shapely flags that were part of our communication system before we technology advanced us to electronic ways to communicate...but certainly around the world there are many who still continue to use this time honored tradition...this fabric is signed brilliantly "Ruth Adler Design for Adler Schnee Associates Semaphore"...what is also extremely notable here is the stamping of the union label...indicating it was made by the revered "Textile Union Workers"...see pics for that iconic and very historically significant stamp...the colors are spectacular for Ruth's application...that uber mid century allure of clean lines and shapely shapes...in a simple and subtle colorway of putty lime...black and creamy white...that's it...just 3 colors...and in those three colors magic was created...please take the time to get to know this wonderful iconic designer...study her and get to know her...she is still alive today at 98 years old...having lived to tell the story of her life...her struggles and her perspective of modern art...
