2023 Vancouver Island Underwater Calendar - Beneath the Emerald Sea - Ocean Scenes and Cute Critters - 8.5x11"

This colourful 8.5x11" wall calendar is a collection of my favourite underwater photos from around Vancouver Island, showcasing our beautiful underwater seascapes as well as some of our most charismatic and cute critters, from 500 lb sea lions down to fierce 1 inch long sculpins, from no-legged nudibranchs, to 8-legged giant pacific octopus, and everything in between! Join me as I venture beneath our emerald seas and shine some light on all of our amazing underwater flora and fauna. 14 photos are not nearly enough to do this amazing ecosystem justice, but I have selected a collection that shows the true diversity of the wonders that live here.

Most people aren't aware that beneath the emerald, nutrient-rich, cold waters of the North Pacific, a profusion of colourful life can be found. Red, yellow, white, pink, and orange invertebrates cover the rock surfaces, rivalling tropical coral reefs in their vibrancy. Opalescent nudibranchs sway in the current on stalks of seagrass, while steller sea lions atrol the shallows. Wolf eels wander among fields of boulders, while tiny, fierce sculpins perch aggressively and show their impressive mouths when intruders enter their territories. Rockfish schools find shelter in the kelp forests, while otherworldly fried egg jellyfish drift by in the current. And that's just scratching the surface!

Every photo in this calendar was shot in the waters around central and northern Vancouver Island. I'm very fortunate to have been born and raised on the island, and to call the beautiful Comox Valley my home. This calendar was created and printed with a lovely local print shop, Sure Copy Courtenay, so it has been photographed, designed and printed on the island.
