The fully decorated pages in the old Celtic illuminated manuscripts are called 'carpet pages', because their complexity of color and design is reminiscent of the ornate persian carpets. This design, of a spiral double wheel situated on a cross shape, is a new design in the spirit of the old manuscript carpet pages. I wanted the dominant design style to be spirals in this piece, to really give the feel of a turning wheel, so you'll notice that the central spiral rundle turns on a triple spiral hub, branching out into the 6 other spirals. Celtic houns, birds and bucket loads of knotwork top the design off!

By purchasing this mug you are helping to keep Celtic art alive as a modern-day art form.
Thank you!

We absolutely love these Celtic coloring pages for our homeschooling. My daughter is learning about the Celtic people and their repeated patterns on gravestones and weapons, as well as many other items the Celtic designs appear on. She absolutely loves the pages I’ve purchased for her.

Gorgeous detailed design, sharp pencils needed! Really enjoyed colouring this one and now looking forward to completing the other designs I bought. I used Polychromos pencils and a few Caran d'Ache metallic pencils and looked at images of medieval carpet pages for colour inspiration.
