I get asked about this often! As a clinical aromatherapist I am not able to advise ingesting essential oils. There are safety (and insurance) reasons for this, and have nothing to do with the quality of the essential oils that I use.
Both topical application (diluted into a carrier oil first) and inhalation (such as a diffuser) are routes are excellent options.

No, you are not imagining things. There are several factors which influence the cost of essential oils, including: crops being wiped out by fire (Australia -2020), ravaged by insects (India -2020), drought conditions, global accessibility problems, chain supply shortages, and soil conditions (Italy, volcanic ash etc.). Not to mention sustainability concerns for certain endangered species like sandalwood and rosewood.
Please use essential oils responsibly- they are a precious commodity.
